I once saw a SKP file THIIIIIIIIIIS big

Ok, not to toot my own horn, but I found this thread because I have a file that is giving me problems. Sooo… my SketchUp file is about 760MB. Based on what I’m reading here, that is stupendously large. When opened in SketchUp, Task Manager is reporting my memory usage at 95%, with SketchUp using 9GB of RAM (yes, GB) just to display the model even with most of the components hidden from view. Obviously, something is very wrong. :joy:

I think 15GB is the biggest one I had.
The files the studio sent me were at least 1.5GB

I figured out why the file is so large. The components I’m using are 3D trees and plants with lots of geometry. Unfortunately, even after reducing the number triangles by 85% during conversion into SKP files, each component is still between 25-50MB, each. Sadly, 25-50MB adds up quickly when doing landscaping models. Using proxy components adds even more. Hiding components or viewing with proxies does help with memory usage, but for now, nothing can help the actual file size. Bummer.
