Hello, I’ve been using SketchUp for a little over 3 years now and I still haven’t figured out how to use the ‘follow-me’ tool completely. I’ve been having trouble, specifically when trying to use it when I’m working with circles.
As you can see here, I’ve been trying to extrude it so that way I can make a handle, but it always either says that “it’s not a valid path” or that “it must be perpendicular” to the selected path. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong and none of the tutorial videos have helped me; so I would really appreciate some advice.
Follow me is not appropriate for the path you show. It can do the U shape but the extensions at the ends wont work.
For a handle like this you would use three cylinders and intersect them.
A few things to remember with follow me.
The path must be continuous.
The path cannot branch.
The profile needs to be perpendicular to the first and last segments of the path for a predictable result.
The path and profile do not have to be touching.
Any arcs or circles in the profile will be exploded after follow me.
Follow me is easily affected by the tiny face issue.
