Trying to draw a simple box with rebated sides to end up with internal dimensions of 80mm square but for the life of me I can’t see what I’m doing wrong
Could someone please advise, I’ve been here for 2 hours so far and now I have a complete mental block
box.skp (20.7 KB)
Since it is four components, make one 10mm bigger and reposition them.
Thank you Box
So I actually need to make 2 components bigger, correct ?
Well, no. All four need to be bigger, but as they are copies of the same component you only need to adjust one and the others follow. Then move them into the correct position.
Ok ( I think)
I ended up with a rectangle of 80 x 70, not the 80 x 80 I wanted, so I think resizing them all will still leave me with a rectangle
I’ll start again
Yep, sorry my mistake, too early for me.
You need two different size components, as you said.
Because they need to overlap to make the joint you want.
No worries at all, I’m grateful for the help
Now I see what is happening, I made them all the same without thinking about the overlap
This is exactly the reason that I wanted to draw it before I started to make it and end up with the wrong size.
I’ll go back to the drawing board
My mistaken thought too, if they were mitres they’d all be the same but as we both see that is not the case with rebate joints.
Thanks again mate. I have redone it and can see I have the sizes that I want ( I have some horrible geometry ) but I can see what I need to cut
Just for fun with my coffee, here it is as just two components. All four sides are the same and the two ends are the same.
and it’s square ? how can you do that when I had to have 2 different sizes ?
Look at my drawing above, the side are a running overlap rather than an inset one.
wow
took me awhile to see the difference !
So…my original box I could have used the same drawing but just organised the components differently ?
Yep, with a slight length adjustment. They still needed to be bigger but only 5mm and moved.
thanks again
My head is still spinning from this and the fact that you drew that just for fun
Appreciate your help
Last thing as I really have to do some stuff now.
Here is how I should have corrected your original model.
