I can't open dropbox files and keep syncing easily

I have had the problem of not being able to open and synchronize my files hosted in Dropbox from the sketchup ipad app and also, I do not understand well the symbols of the folders indicating where it is saved and the status of each file. So the post is a bit long

One of my problems is indicated in this post Files greyed out

And the other in this File management icons - #3 by MikeTadros

By the way, none gives a definitive solution! :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

  1. I can’t open my files from the app itself on the ipad nor from ipad files or from Dropbox app! From any of these paths the *.skp file is grayed out and I simply can’t open it.
If I choose the share option (which then becomes export) from files or Dropbox app, yes I can open the file but I lose the synronization (and I don’t want to use trimble connect, thanks)
  2. The last thing that solved the problem for me is: go to Dropbox app, choose view offline file, and after being sure that the file is on the ipad, choose export to sketchup ipad app.

Interestingly the project folder icon appears blue and does not carry the sketchup symbol, but it syncs correctly with Dropbox.

I don’t know what technical problems you have with ipad and “first come first served” and I understand your proposal to use Trimble Connect, but please allow one to easily open files from any cloud, so one can choose and you will have happy users!

I tried a test, see if this works for you:

I uploaded a SketchUp file to Dropbox, and copied the link to the file. I pasted that in Safari on my iPad, and downloaded the file. When the download is done you can click a magnifier to show the location of the file.

Long-press on the file, and you should get a menu like this:

Choose Share, and you will see this in the options you are given:

Choosing SketchUp opens the model in the SketchUp app.

Hi @colin , I don’t know if I didn’t make myself clear but it’s not that I can’t open the files, it’s that I can’t open them easily (see Files greyes out link)

I would also like to make sure that I’m not duplicating files, that is that my iPad doesn’t produce a new file that I then have to upload back to Dropbox and have more versions instead of working on the go and opening my computer when I get to my office and picking up where I left off.

The solution I have implemented is the one I indicate in point 2 of my post, but I should not be doing that nor should I do, with all due respect, what you advise me, that only tells me where I downloaded the file and be able to open it, but it does not synchronize it, that is we still do not solve the problem: open directly from the SketchUp app on the iPad the files hosted in Dropbox and not duplicate, that sync as happens with any other app and Dropbox :man_shrugging:t2:
