I am having issues after I import a drawing from Dynascape

Thank you. I think part of my problem is with Dynascape. I cannot access the plugins and components. i am working with their team to figure out the problem.

@dbreslin It just takes time and practice. My style is more tool oriented, so I like to have my hands on the mouse and Space Mouse. I get frustrated with Dyanscape because of the shift / control / click / scroll way one moves around (Zoom and Pan) in the plan (i.e. I’m not good with keyboards). Hopefully you get things sorted out. Did anyone mention the tutorials to you? Looking back I would have started there.

I have been watching several tutorials. Still waiting to see if I can get access to plugins and components from Dynascape. That is my big hold up.

Thank you!

Now I run into a new problem. I have been back and forth with a rep from Dynascape and he told me that I do not have access to the plugins and components from Dynascape bc they are available only through Sketch3D not Sketchup. How do you all have access through Sketchup?

Hopefully you’ll show the results of the clean-up plugin.

You want plant components, I’m guessing.

I can’t see your picture.

@dbreslin, I have a Dynascape Design license through a friend/designer. My version of Dynascape Design has File → SketchUp → Export to SketchUp format & Clean up drawing for Export. There’s also an option to export as .dwg.

I export from Dyanscape as .skp, or .dwg then import into SketchUp Pro. Otherwise, I import an image file of the plan (.jpg or .png).

So that is how I have access. But I wouldn’t need Dyanscape if I had a .dwg exported from Dynascape, an .skp exported from Dyanscape, or an image of the plan (I could trace that like one might trace a survey).

I can’t tell if you exported to/as SketchUp or if you exported a .dwg and then imported to SketchUp.

Do you have the option within Dynascape to export to SketchUp?

It seems that Sketch3D has an option to download a plugin (.rbz) that installs in SketchUp. I haven’t used it.

If you don’t want to get that, check out ThomThom’s Edge Tools2 plugin in the Extension Warehouse. It is similar to the Sketch3D plugin.

For example, here’s your plan (top right of building, several gaps):

TT2 Close gaps

Closed on right (may be difficult to see…)

The Sketch3D components comprise libraries of 3D
models. The one I added to your model in an earlier post is from the SketchUp 3D Warehouse.

I did export to SketchUp and did the Clean up for export through Dynascape. I am still confused as to the components and plugins from Dynascape. I will look into the ThomThom Edge Tools2. Thanks!

Maybe it is time to reach out to the makers of Dynascape to ask for help with their export?

Does this page help? DynaScape Sketch3D - Landscape Specific Plugins, Textures, and Components for SketchUp

Oh. On all the DynaScape pages I looked at it requests that you buy the software before you can download the components and plugins.

I believe you’ll need to subscribe to Sketch3D in order to get the Dynascape plugins and components.

You can also make your own collections from the SketchUp 3D Warehouse. For example, you have Hosta:

Search for hosta | 3D Warehouse (sketchup.com)

Boxwoods (I think): Search for boxwood | 3D Warehouse (sketchup.com)

Hydrangea (Tree?): Search for hydrangea | 3D Warehouse (sketchup.com)

I’m not sure on shrubs, etc. Common: Search for karl forester grass | 3D Warehouse (sketchup.com)

Otherwise there are collections you may be able to find with internet searches. I’m more of a chop saw kind of person or I’d have more info!

This is what I don’t understand. We have the Dynascape program but do not have Sketch3D. Do you know if I have to have sketch3D? Because if I did I would not be using Sketchup

I’m not able to see your images.

Sketch3D is one of a few offerings by Dyanscape. You appear to have Dynascape Design. There’s also Dyanscape Color (for making colorized 2D plans) and Manage 360.

You don’t need Sketch3D (as far as I know)! Sketch3D helps to get your 2D plan into 3D/SketchUp. It has some plugins that make the conversion easier (.dwg imports have ā€˜errors’ that you’ve seen), and it has a library of model components, like trees, plants, furniture, etc, that are handy for visualizing plans in 3D.

If I had to guess, it seems that you want to create 2D plans of your designs for homeowners and landscape installation crews. You’d like to create 3D ā€˜renderings’ of your plans to show clients (sales).

You don’t need Sketch3D to use SketchUp. You don’t need Sketch3D to use Dynascape. You can use Dynascape with SketchUp without Sketch3D. I was trying to show you some tips as to how to do that.

Yes, we just have Dynascape. I am trying to figure out the best 3D program to turn the 2D drawings into 3D drawings for clients to sell more work. I finally got the answer I need for the plugins and components. I do not have to use Sketch3D (as you said) so I am going to try to figure the plugins and components from other extensions.

I will go back through the emails and re-read each one so hopefully I can actually start doing this correctly. Any hints as to the best extensions and components to get would be appreciated!

Thank you again for all of your help!

Ah. Some designers use Photoshop to help visualize their designs for clients.

These are some useful basic plugin/extensions:

Eneroth Flatten to Plane | SketchUp Extension Warehouse

Edge Tools² | SketchUp Extension Warehouse

Sandbox Tools | SketchUp Extension Warehouse

Workflow:

  1. Watch/follow/do SketchUp Campus: SketchUp Campus

  2. Either export .skp or export .dwg from Dyna into SketchUp.

  3. Eneroth Flatten to Plane. This checks that your lines are flat.

  4. Edge Tools². May fix little problems.

  5. Don’t worry about any of the above and just draw what you want.

  6. Redo this list so that Goals is first ;^). Set little goals.

You’re welcome. Good luck!
