Huge material list from other software

Can anyone tell me why I’m seeing this list in my dropdown in materials in sketchup 2023? How can I remove them?

PS this is only about half of the list… its huge

I don’t know why you are getting that long list but the first thing I would do is go to Window>Model Info>Statistics and click Purge Unused. Then check to see if the list has been reduced. If not, that would imply the materials are being used some place in the model. You’ll have to start digging, then.

The list did not shrink… Im wondering if this is a symptom/cause of my complaints recently with crashes and loading times in layout. There are no materials in the majority of the categories…

Materials folder populated with non-materials lists

There was a long discussion about this recently. It might not have been in the forum, but the outcome was that the Materials folder path had been changed to something else. I think in your case it’s set to /Library. Go into Preferences, Files, and look at Materials. Click on the pencil icon, and in the file dialog that appear type Command-Shift-G. Paste in this text: ~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2020/SketchUp/Materials That should set the materials back to the right path.
