I’m having trouble with re-scaling a “face” to a specific size after completing the first project. I currently have 3 days left on my free trial of using the Windows pc download 2026 and unable to edit the numbers in either area or measurement box to adjust the square footage. There are multiples of the same shape and have failed at classifying them as a group for a synchronous size adjustment. I even tried selecting the work as a whole to correct the size. I’dlike to just type in the numbers instead of dragging the corner to expand the whole thing many increments at a time. Thank you in advance. ![]()
You can’t do that with areas on SketchUp, you must do the math using the scale tool or you can use the tape tool to do what you want but with edges not faces.
I’ll readjust my approach and see what I can accomplish. I’ve also tried playing with the tape measure. I’m still learning how to use the tools.
You must click on the two ends of an edge while using the tape tool, then without leaving the tool, type the dimension you want that edge to be and hit enter, it will ask you if you want to change the size of the group/component or model, depending on the level you used the tool, if you do it inside a group or component only the group/component will be affected, if you do it on the first level of the model, the entire model will be affected.
Since you have a topography model i would use the height between contour lines, cause it’s usually a known dimension, you must just draw on the Z axis from one contour line until it reaches the level of the lower or upper line, you must know what’s the dimension, so do as shown on the video but on the Z axis, it doesn’t matter the positioning of the line as long as you know the real measurements it must have.
If you don’t really know any length but the real area on your image, just do the mathematical rule of three so you can get the exact scaling without doing it little by little until you get an approximate, that isn´t a accurate method.
If you really can´t do it, you can share the model and I can make a video showing you how to scale it properly.
That’s not how it works in SketchUp.
Groups don’t have that relation to each other, components do. If you change one (only changes inside the component), the other (same) components will inherit the same changes.
But you have to make a component yourself and then make copies of it.
SketchUp doesn’t recognize same shapes and automatically turns them into components..

Sorry for the delay, I figured out how to adjust the length using the tape measure with your guidance which I appreciate.
I just wish it would allow one to adjust the square footage directly within any face. I’ve been communicating with the sketchup ai and Grok in tandem whereas Grok is a bit more helpful with math than the other being like “Do it your own dang self.” lol
