How to get an angled surface on a container bottom?

Hello! I’m designing a pot for plants, to print. I’m a beginner using Desktop.

I need a pot and “hidden” saucer that match and sit together. The bottom of the pot would look a bit like this:

There is a lip, and an angled part. The matching saucer has a coordinating lip and angle so it holds the pot securely.

I’ve designed a pot with a lip but I don’t know how to make the angle. Any advice would be gratefully received!

Exactly what version of SketchUp are you using? Your forum profile is confusing. SketchUp for Schools is a web-based version for young school children. It is not 2025 Desktop. The correct information will help us help you because it’ll tell us what tools you have available for this.

By “angle” do you mean the radiused part in your photo?

If you are intending to 3D print this you will need to do some repair. There can be no exposed blue back faces and the bottom will have to have thickness.

Does this look like what you are hoping to create?

Here you can see the bottom has thickness.

Once you have the vase as a solid component or group you can the Solid Tools to make it trim the tray for the vase to sit in. I’m using components and Bool Tools 2 here because it respects the components and so you can see the tray being cut.

You are right- I messed up my profile. I have corrected it now. I bought a “core plan” and downloaded it so I am assuming it’s Desktop.

Yes, that’s just what I was aiming for- thank you! Did you create a version of the file?

I am not confident I can repair as shown, I’ll take a look.

Does Solid Tools create the rounded parts you created?

What is a “core plan”? Who did you buy it from? There’s no classic license for SketchUp.

I didn’t save it if that’s what you menan.

No. solid tools do Boolean operations like Subtract and Trim. The radiused edges on the bottom of the vase were created with an extension called FredoCorner which comes from Sketchucation. I used BoolTools2 to create the recess in the tray from the bottom of the vase.

Spend some time learning how to use the software at learn.sketchup.com

The Pro plan here: 3D Modeling Software Pricing – 3D Design Program Cost - SketchUp | SketchUp

So you bought the Pro subscription? If that’s the case put that in your forum profile.

And then you can use the extensions I referred to.

I think I’d have to spend a lot of time to match your 20 years using Sketchup!

The images are very interesting.

The clues you provided to the solution to my problem are that Subtract and Trim, plus Fredo Corner, are required and so I will spend some time with them.

First spend the time learning the fundamentals of SketchUp.

What I did was pretty basic stuff if you understand the fundamental tools. The extensions make things faster and easier but they’ll only work if the basic geometry is done correctly.

Along with what Dave has shown you, while working through the fundamentals you may want to keep this sort of thing in mind.
These shapes are drawn with the edge and 2 point arc tools. Then grouped to separate their geometry, which allows them to fit together perfectly after using follow me. All basic tools. This is just a random shape, not meant to be what you were trying to model, just an example of fitting things together.
