Help - Not Responding when clicking Purge Unused

Since @DaveR said he will be tied up for a while, I’ll jump in.

The videos @Guido linked should clarify what SketchUp’s tags (formerly called layers) are and what they do.

The recommendation @DaveR gave is based on years of experience with users bringing models with confusing issues with visibility to the forum for help. Although an expert might tag edges and faces (though most don’t, I believe) and it is technically legal, doing so is a road to chaos if you don’t fully understand how they work or don’t remember what you did. Most of the issues arise when edges or faces in an object (group or component) have different tags than the object itself. You can then get into a situation where making the tag on the object visible yet seeing none or only some of the edges and faces that make up the object. And applying the same tag to an object and its contents is pointless because turning off the tag of the object will make its contents invisible regardless of what tag they have.

There is, however, a gotcha to be aware of: if you explode a group or component that is tagged, SketchUp will apply its tag to all of the newly freed contents, including edges and faces. The best workflow is to immediately go to entity info and choose untagged while the exploded contents are still selected.

Edit: When I downloaded your file and purged unused components, all the misused tags went away. So they must have been committed by things you downloaded from the 3DWarehouse. Another example of how things found there can be full of issues when used as entourage.

Edit 2: You have a tag named hiden [sic] but have also set the hidden property on some geometry. I would advise only using the hidden property (as distinguished from soften and smooth, which also cause edges to be invisible) for temporarily letting you see through something, and then unhiding all before you leave that edit context. Not following this workflow can lead to invisible things that can’t be unhidden until you happen to reopen the group or component that contains them.

Your model contains a couple of hidden things strangely placed outside the house. The wall with the glass blocks actually contains almost 43% of the edges in the entire model, yet is hidden and not in place!

In SketchUp, it is best to model things in place, as that assures they will fit correctly with everything around them.

thank you for this explanation too! will look out more
