I’ve been using the web version of SketchUp for over a year now. Mainly for fun. This week I built a new PC and noticed a problem. When I’m 2 components in, and I try to copy, paste or duplicate, the whole app freezes up and I have to close the entire browser tab. Never had this issue with my old PC (same GPU).
The issue persists with all of my projects. I can still press buttons and return to the overview, but when I open another project, I only see the frozen screen from the previous project.
I have updated every possible HW driver, OS and peripherals.
I have the exact same issue, and is the reason why I joined the forum since googling didn’t do anything. I have been using the free version or the old Sketchup Make for a couple years now. File is not crazy large but it becomes unresponsive when I move an object. Quite annoying when you are framing walls and the easiest way to get spacing equidistant involves cloning/moving. I was curious about the fact that I could create a model with multiple levels of hierarchy and yet have this problem crop up even though there had not been any recent updates. It turns out that you can create an arbitrarily deep hierarchy with no problems. The only issue is when you enter into a hierarchy level more than 2 deep and try to add a component or copy/move a component existing in that hierarchy level. You can move components at deeper hierarchies, you just can’t add or copy. I have attached a testcase below that goes to 9 levels of hierarchy. component hierarchy testcase.skp (117.5 KB)
Hi everyone. I wanted to let everyone know that this has been reported directly to our SketchUp Web team. Thank you @36yrdream for providing clear steps to reproduce the issue.
I know it’s not an ideal workaround, but while our developers are working on it, exploding the component or group to the same level or one level above the one being edited does prevent the freezing. Alternately, copying the entity, fully closing out of all levels of the nested component, and then pasting also appears to work without freezing.
I am also seeing this issue as well. I run Sketchup in Chrome and it has been a week or so since I’ve worked in Sketchup Web. I have a fairly complex model of my house I’ve been using to build targets for renovations. Most of the model is three or more component levels deep, so I would assume I should run into this issue immediately. In early December, I was duplicating objects within components without issue. As of yesterday, I could no longer do so. I captured the webevent log in Safari in case anyone is interested.
Hi @chris.stephan, thanks for the post. I just ran a check on our web version and can confirm the issue is still there. I’ll go ahead and log the issue and will bring it up as soon as the rest of the team is back online.
