Hello, I am brand new at sketchup, and have an older version, it’s sketchup pro 2018. I am following a tutorial that shows me how to drag and drop my tools in the top space for toolbars, above my sketchup page. But i am not able to drag and drop any tools. All I can do is open the tools box, it gives me a sidebar with tools in it but not the option to customize it. If i select “customize”, nothing happens. Can someone help me?
It is not clear how do you able to select “customise” if it is gives you no option to customise? Can you please clarify. Screenshot? Which tutorial are you following?
In your forum profile you indicating SketchUp for Schools licence, did you really installed Sketchup pro 2018 into your computer, or are you using the https://app.sketchup.com/ in your browser?
If it’s the latter, the interface is really different and doesn’t allow you to put toolbars at the top of the screen, but you can rearrange the order of icons on the left “sidebar”…with the “drag and drop” method of your mouse.
Hi! thanks for responding. I have sketchup pro 2018 on my laptop, when signing up to this forum, i didn’t know which option to select (there was no sketchup pro 2018) so i selected student.
I’ll upload screenshots. I’m using Whitelock Design’s online course for sketchup and layout.
Why are you using SketchUp 2018? Where did you get it? Is it a cracked version?
here if i select large tools then a tool box shows up on the left side, but i cant edit it. I can move it around, but only vertically, i can’t spread it out at the top of the page like the instructor can (he is using sketchup pro i think) and I can’t modify it: remove or add. If i select customize, from the tab, nothing happens, I can’t modify this toolbox. Any ideas? I am very, very new at this.
The instructor is using a Mac, you’re using Windows. The UI is different.
The Large Tool Set is only intended to be used vertically. You can pull out the individual toolbars instead of using the Large Tool Set and place them where you want.
Again, why are you starting with SketchUp 2018 now? It hasn’t been supported for a long time. You won’t be able to use a number of the features that will be shown in the course, either.
my friend gave it to me with my laptop, years ago. I probably should pay for a modern subscription but because i have never fully committed to working with sketchup regularly yet, I really hate the idea of never owning it, and needing to pay a subscription fee, and needing to be online all the time. as far as i can tell, sketchup doesn’t allow you to purchase programs anymore in one lump sum, you are forced to just be a subscriber “renter” forever.
So I guess it’s probably a cracked version you’re using now?
No. It’s like paying for your phone service or electricity. Consider it a cost of doing business.
well for now i’m just learning and i dont know if i’ll be using it regularly, so to commit to spending 600$ isn’t super great for me.
but if you don’t know how to help me with my problem, no worries. thanks for your input
Using a pirated version isn’t super great for you, either. And like I wrote before, that old version no longer has access to a lot of features.
I already told you! You are comparing Mac to Windows and the UI’s are different. The Large Tool Set can only be used in the vertical orientation. You can drag out other toolbars and move them to be horizontal or vertical as needed. You can also create custome toolbars contain native tools and place them where you want.
