I have been tearing my hair out for hours - I saved my LO 2018 document and closed the program. When I reopened it there was no sign my document - I did all kinds of searches to no avail. I finally found what looked like my file, Then I went to LO to open it and I have the yellow triangle ! showing. No sign of the missing SU file. More hours of searching. I found it and noticed I was working on an auto backup file. I changed the file from .skb to skp, saved it and it magically appeared. Why doesn’t LO recognize skb files?
SKB is a backup file. As a rule, you should never be working from a SKB. If you need to recover the file for some reason, you should duplicate the file and change the copy to be a SKP. The issue is around how those are handled, SketchUp makes backup files for SKP files, not for SKB. So if you break the SKB, you’ll likely not have a backup file to revert to.
I don’t know where the original disappeared to the night before. When I awoke and went to resume working on my model, it was gone. Apparently my Dell crashed / shut down during the night losing everything that was open. Then it rebooted. That skb was the only version I found so I continued with it.
I’ll do that next time, though I wonder why it crashes - second time.
