File size excessive

Another thing to remember, both for images and material textures, is to keep the pixel dimensions of the image/texture appropriate to the size of the face they will be placed on. I have seen models with absurd things like a 2000x2000 image used as texture for a material with a 1"x1" tile size. That comes out to 4 million pixels/sq-inch, which will never be visible unless you zoom in so close or scale up the face so large that you can’t see anything except that tile!

yes, the Tiles per area was another factor to consider along with the resolution in the images I forgot to consider

Just another question, sorry to bother–please explain how to untag the faces and edges in the model. You mentioned the “Default Tag Geometry” tool download. In the screenshot there is under entity info the untag tab, and content shows in the drop menu buildings, trees, etc. Where do you go from here? In the model info > statistics there are about 980,000 edges and 80,000 faces.

Since it’s geometry that needs to be untagged you need to have the geometry selected. While the group you have selecte for your screen shot shows as untagged, there’s no telling if the geometry inside it is tagged or untagged. Open the group for editing and select all of the geometry. If the Tag field in Entity Info shows anything other than Untagged, change it to Untagged.

I mentioned the Default Tag Geometry extension which is available from Sketchucation. It will go through the entire model and set Untagged for all edges and faces.

In the snapshot, I selected a building out of my model, then opened up the group (building) and selected all geometry inside of it. The topic was on 2d images, but I chose this building to get an idea of how to change tagged items to untag. In checking the entity info from the uploaded screenshot, it shows 202 entities which are edges. And then “untagged” is indicated. I was unable to include the dropdown menu under untag in the screenshot, but it list 5 categories in the entire model, which are buildings, terrain, trees, roads, etc. There were no tagged items in the entity info box, which appears good, right? In Sketchucation, I’ll try the extension,“Default Tag Geometry”, thanks !

Actually the entities are edges AND faces. And in that object those edges and faces are untagged. If you want to make sure all of the geometry in that model is untagged you would have to open every group and component to check in the same way. Or you could use the extension I told you about to go through the entire model in a couple of seconds.

thanks, I’ll try using the ext. But for the building selected, and the dialogue box Entity Info, is everything untagged ( no tagged items exist for this specific building) ?

In your screen shot Entity Info shows the edges and faces you have selected are untagged.
