I have done about 4 projects in sketchup, and am now doing examples that relate to real life. I keep noticing that my file will re-scale itself (maybe when I close/save/reopen), i’m not sure when it happens, why, or what I can do to prevent it.
First project was a 3d print, that I double checked was 3" wide, emailed it to the printer, it came to them 13" wide. I went back and resized it, but it happened again.
The second project is a model of a house. The house has 8’ ceilings. I put it in that way every time. I opened up the file to draw the 2nd floor, and find that the first floor is 6’8"1/8.
I looked back through tutorials, and don’t see my specific issue in the forums to address this issue.
It’s hard to say without seeing your SketchUp models but if you are scaling the objects in the model but not updating their definitions, the scaling could get reset. If you choose to scale objects as opposed to opening the objects and scaling the geometry, you need to update the object’s definition so the size is correct. Right click on the object and use Scale Definition.
Thanks Dave, that might explain it. I am still trying to be very conscientious about changing the measurements inside the object “group”, but that is likely an error I’m still doing (newbie).
I would upload a file, but I saved it after I kept fiddling with it, so it isn’t at the same stage anymore/might confuse the issue.
I’m going to try level 3 of the house, if it happens again, I will save and upload right at that phase.
Thanks so much for replying!
Question about the 3D print model. What kind of file did you email out? Did whomever printed it know your model was supposed to be 3 inches wide and not 13 inches? Do you do a lot of modeling for 3D printing?
