Hi, i’ve been working a group project and the file is very big and laggy. I’ve tried to purge it but it just crash/close all the time. The file is around 600+ mb. Any help would be appreciated. If you want the file, i can send it to you personally as i can’t post it here thanks.
Send it to me if you want. I’ll give it a go.
hello DaveR, i’ll just upload it on my drive
I’m still working on your file but here are a few things I’ve found so far. First a lot of incorrect tag usage. Untagged should be left active at all times. All edges and faces should be created and remain untagged.
Then I purged unused stuff from the model. Not as many unused components or materials as I expected.
I think it’s time you update to SketchUp 2025. It will handle stuff like this better than 2023.
There’s a huge number of excessively large texture images and I expect that they are the main reason for the obesity in your model. I’m working on reducing them but it’s slow.
Thankyou DaveR, i will update it soon
I resized the materials and also ran CleanUp3. All this knocked about 130 Mb off the file size. It’s still rather bloated but you’ll need to go through it and do some surgery on the components to reduce them. I expect many of them can be slimmed down rather dramatically without hurting anything. I’ll send the the link to the file.
You may still have export problems. If so, you’ll have to dig into the file. At least the unused stuff is gone.
FWIW, if you plan to do any renderings from this file you should fix the incorrect face orientation. There should be no exposed blue back faces. There are some extremely heavy objects like that central tree or whatever the heck it is.
While resizing the textures I noticed a couple of Google Earth “snapshots”. You should be aware that Google Earth’s EULA prohibit using their imagery that way.
This kind of stuff is crazy.
hello, what do you mean by that? google earth snapshots?
is this what cause the lag?
technically, we’re not allowed to screenshot google earth / maps and use it for commercial work. Google has an array of licencing solutions for different uses.
it sure won’t help, you have a handful of very detailed models (too detailed probably) as well as 3d scanned entities. they are usually made of thousands of tiny triangles (the more the more precise) and can be on the heavy side.
hello, i don’t know about that. I’m a student and this was just forwarded to me to do my part. Anyway, thanks to that info. :)))
Out of curiosity, are you using a cr acked version of SketchUp 2023?
