Failed to Open Document - Help Please!

Please help! I do not know what to do for a failed to open document file. It is for a class project and I do not have time to restart it. I was trying to render it and then that happened. Please.

You’ll have to make the file available. Currently I get an Access Denied message.

What version of SketchUp are you really using? Your profile says SketchUp for Schools which is a web-based version for young school children. Is that what you are really using?

Where have you been saving the file while working on it?

Here is the new link SketchUp - Google Drive

I got confused when setting up profile. We use SketchUp pro.

I was able to open the .skb file but the .skp file is badly damaged. Were you saving the file to an external location while working on it?

I have done my standard cleanup on your .skb file.

Fixed incorrect tag usage:

Purged the unused stuff being hoarded in the file.

And reduced the size of the excessively large textures.

This reduced the file size by 70%. I’ll upload it and share the link shortly.

Yes I was! Was it recovered?

Don’t do that. While you’re working on the file save it to the internal drive on the computer. Copy it to the external drive if you must or better, also save it to your Trimble Connect storage.

I couldn’t do anything with the .skp file. I was able to open the .skb file after changing its extension to .skp. You can probably do that, too.

Here’s the link to the cleaned up file though.

Thank you so much!!!

You’re quite welcome.

By the way, you should be making groups for the walls, floor and ground. As it is you just have loose geometry. Also, you have a lot of incorrectly oriented faces. There should be no exposed blue back faces in your 3D model. If you intend to do any photo-realistic rendering you’ll need to correct the reversed faces.

You have fallen into the bloated entourage components trap. A single shop with about 5.5 million entities. Half of them are in the 64 shoes displayed on the wall. Anything repeated should be as simple as possible.
