Extensions error at startup on fresh install of SU 2024 - Windows

So, I’m on a new (to me) work laptop, installing SU2024 Pro (as admin) and starting it I get an error stating “some extensions failed to load” which lists “localise.rbe”, “dynamic components (1.8.3)” and “Trimble Scan Essentials for Sketchup (1.2024.0208)”. Selecting “update all extensions” on this dialogue does not change anything (no apparent change following clicking the button)
I also have to use DesignPH 2 (not available from the extensions warehouse), and I try to install this via the extension manager but despite showing in the extension manager and showing as “signed” and it being enabled, it does not show up.
I have completely uninstalled and deleted all traces of sketchup before reinstalling as admin, and repairing as admin with no success.
If I log in as admin on the laptop then SU works correctly with no issue with extensions.
Please Sketchup community, you’re my only hope!

EDIT: For clarity, works on the admin account, not on user account. Installed as admin on either user profile.

This sounds like a permissions issue, particularly because it runs correctly if you log on as administrator. When you installed SU did you log on as a different user who has admin privileges, right-click the installer and choose “Run as Administrator”? This is not the same as simply running the installer exe either when logged on as Administrator nor when logged on as a user with admin privileges. There can be subtle differences in how ownership of files, folders and registry entries are set up which can cause strange errors in SketchUp.

The user I am trying to use has admin rights. When I first installed SU I did it prior to having admin rights and installed as admin by right clicking the install file. however subsequent attempts have been made whilst having admin rights.
How would you suggest installing SU? via the main admin profile?

Installing while logged in an administrator account is not the way to do it. You should be logged in your normal user account and then choose “run as administrator” when right-clicking on the SketchUp installer…

that is what I have done.

Sorry, must have read it wrong…

Definitely not. That is one way to get permissions set so that SU can’t reach required things when run by an ordinary user.

As a side question, did you set up this PC yourself, or was it done for you by an IT department? Sometimes they set things in ways that mess with SketchUp’s requirements.

the laptop was setup by our IT dept. how should it be setup so that this issue does not occur?

I need to hand this off to a Windows guru. I’m a Mac user. I know what has been reported here on the forum but not exactly what IT might do that causes SU to glitch. Definitely associated with permissions, but which specific ones on which specific files, folders, or registry entries I don’t know.

So, half a resolution courtesy of Sketchup support.
"We have identified a bug causing load errors in the specific case where a profile is created in a workgroup or domain environment and then the username or password for the profile is changed prior to the installation of SketchUp.

Currently, the only resolution we have found is to revert the profile back to the original username/password or create a new user profile on the machine. The bug has been reported to devs.

To try a new user profile for windows and a clean install of SketchUp:

  1. Sign out of SketchUp.

  2. Create a new user profile. Detailed instructions are available here: Manage user accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support

  3. In that new profile download and install SketchUp: Download All | SketchUp | SketchUp

  4. Sign in and see if the issue is resolved"

I resolved the issue by creating a completely new user but since received the above. Hopefully this is useful for others in the future.
