Exporting One Object As An STL File?

Hello! I’m sorry if this has been posted before but I’m trying to export 1 thing as an stl file for 3D printing, specifically a piece of furniture I’ve designed. I have several tables in my project but I just want to select one of them and save as the stl file. When I go to the “download” menu and select STL, it includes all the tables in the STL file. When I go to the “export” menu, there is no STL option. I also tried right-clicking but of course there’s nothing there. This is all in the web-based version of Sketchup but when I use the iPad version, I CAN save out one individual item as an STL. Am I missing something? Thanks so much for any help!

it looks like this topic is asking about the same sort of thing:

https://forums.sketchup.com/t/exporting-stl-file-of-selected-group-and-or-component/277394

but the reply from @DaveR is mentioning an “export options” but I’m not seeing that on my end. Heelllpp!!! haha

The export to stl is in the download menu for some reason…

The OP made a feature request for the Desktop version of SketchUp, not the web based versions. At least to date there isn’t a option to export only selected objects in the web based versions of SketchUp. You can delete everything but the object you want and do Save as to create a new file from which to export the STL. Maybe one day they will add this feature to SletchUp Go web.

yeah but it makes an STL of every item in the project. I’m wanting to only create an STL of one particular thing.

I think that day should be today :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

well, with the free/go version, you could also copy the element, open a new project, and paste it there.

:innocent:

I know. I did do that, but it just makes more sense to be able to do it by selecting one item and exporting only that.
I’m paying for whatever version allows me to use Sketchup on my iPad. Seems silly that I can’t have the same features here that I’m paying for just for the iPad version.

Maybe they’ll add that capability or maybe there’s some issue that prevents if from being added.

Another option in the meantime:
Select all, deselect the thing you want to export, delete the selection, export the .stl, undo the deletion.

Good option. Thanks Dave!

Hi, it may not be applicable to you but the Prusa slicer has an option to split the model into objects…so I export/download STL and import to the slicer…in the slicer I split the model and delete unwanted objects.
