Export cloud point image broken with 2024-2025

Hi guys! First of all please excuse my english :folded_hands: , I’ll try to explain my problem as clearly as possible. I’m quite excited and happy with the new 2025 SketchUp update, but there is one thing that’s troubling me a lot involving scan essentials.

I’ve been working witch cloud points a few years already, and our workflow at the studio usually starts with scanning a building, and then exporting cuts and sections from the cloud to serve as a blueprint for later CAD documentation. So when the Studio subscription included the scan essentials extension it was a very welcome gift for me.

Until 2023 SketchUp version it was working as expected for me: I imported the cloud, prepare some scenes with sections and different ortographic views, and exported as a hi-res jpg or png (usually between 12.000 and 15.000 pixels wide). The image that I got this way was a clean, beautiful and detailed image from the cloud, like I was viewing in the viewport but very hi-res. But that changed in 2024, and as far as i’ve been testing also in 2025.

Following the same settings that I used in 2023, now the image exported has composition errors (see the pictures below, I kept the resolution low but the errors are clear when you compare both images), and the cloud seem to be loosing detail, like it’s got some kind of transparency. I have tried all different cloud shading and view options available in the plugin, different output resolutions, formats, point size, density… Everything. I already have tried with the old engine option from the preferences menu, and the result is always the same: image composition errors and loosing detail compared to the same cloud export from 2023.

I know it may be a very specific issue from a very specific workflow, but it is very important for me, and I would be super grateful if anyone has a clue on that matter and why it may be happening. For now I keep installed 2023 only for exporting cloud views, and 2025 for modeling and everything else.

Thanks a lot in advance guys!!

I’m not sure if it’s the same cause, but I also have a similar issue. It’s SketchUp 2024, and the difference compared to Trimble RealWorks is too extreme. In my case, it doesn’t seem to always happen. Luckily, sometimes it works normally. The two attached images are of the same place.

Hello,
We have indeed noticed issues with export especially when setting large image size. But most of the issues we noticed were density issues. It seems some part of the cloud are not well localized in your case. Could you share with us this cloud or a cloud which produce similar issues so that we can better investigate.

Hello,
You seem to have similar display issues. Could you confirm you have these issues while exporting an image and not while rendering the point cloud onto SketchUp ?

hello.
In my case this is not a problem when exporting the image, but when displaying it in trimble scan essentials in SketchUp. Point cloud view in trimble realworks may not be exactly the same as in scan essentials, but they have similar toolbar icons and similar views.
Sometimes when I try to draw a line on top of the point cloud, or zooming in for detailed drawing, the point cloud is not displayed properly, just like my attached image before.

Could you share with us both point cloud & skp ?
Could you also tell me the version you’re using for SketchUp & Scan Essentials ?
Thank you

Hi, thanks for your answer. I confirm that in the viewport all is working as expected, the problems shows up when exporting hi-res images.

The same cloud & Skp file work fine when opened in 2023.

I’ll try to share the scan (.e57 format) and the SketchUp +
