Hi guys! First of all please excuse my english , I’ll try to explain my problem as clearly as possible. I’m quite excited and happy with the new 2025 SketchUp update, but there is one thing that’s troubling me a lot involving scan essentials.
I’ve been working witch cloud points a few years already, and our workflow at the studio usually starts with scanning a building, and then exporting cuts and sections from the cloud to serve as a blueprint for later CAD documentation. So when the Studio subscription included the scan essentials extension it was a very welcome gift for me.
Until 2023 SketchUp version it was working as expected for me: I imported the cloud, prepare some scenes with sections and different ortographic views, and exported as a hi-res jpg or png (usually between 12.000 and 15.000 pixels wide). The image that I got this way was a clean, beautiful and detailed image from the cloud, like I was viewing in the viewport but very hi-res. But that changed in 2024, and as far as i’ve been testing also in 2025.
Following the same settings that I used in 2023, now the image exported has composition errors (see the pictures below, I kept the resolution low but the errors are clear when you compare both images), and the cloud seem to be loosing detail, like it’s got some kind of transparency. I have tried all different cloud shading and view options available in the plugin, different output resolutions, formats, point size, density… Everything. I already have tried with the old engine option from the preferences menu, and the result is always the same: image composition errors and loosing detail compared to the same cloud export from 2023.
I know it may be a very specific issue from a very specific workflow, but it is very important for me, and I would be super grateful if anyone has a clue on that matter and why it may be happening. For now I keep installed 2023 only for exporting cloud views, and 2025 for modeling and everything else.
Thanks a lot in advance guys!!
