Every time I open a new model, a bugsplat occurs

Hi! I was curious if anyone knows how to fix this issue. Every time I open a model in sketchup, whether its brand new, or one I have been working on for a while, my sketchup crashes. I have not changed any settings or had any updates on my laptop, however, even though it worked for years, it immediately crashes now. I tried to uninstall the app and reinstall it, however, that did not fix my issue. Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this? Thank you!

Do you get Bug Splats and are you sending them in with your name and email address so they can be linked to you?

Where are these files saved when you are trying to open them?

Did you install SketchUp correctly? That requires right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting Run as administrator.

What is the graphics card? You list the CPU in your forum profile.

Hi Dave!

I have sent in around 3 bugsplats concerning the issue so far. I have tried opening files from my external drive as well as ones saved directly to my computer. Even when I try to start a new sketchup model, the same issue occurs, so I don’t believe it is a specific file issue. I did install it correctly. In fact, the same sketchup version worked for months before yesterday, even without me changing any settings or updating the application. Oops on the graphics card! I have a Nvida Geforce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU

Maybe @colin can look them up to help identify what is causing the issue.

It’s not advisable to work on files saved directly to external drives, network drives, or cloud-based drives.

Since SketchUp didn’t change recently something else must have. Did you install any new extensions? Was there a Windows update that might have included graphics driver updates that are bad. This has been known to happen.

Please correct your forum profile. The operating system will be some version of Windows, probably Windows 11, and Nvida Geforce RTX 4050 would be the graphics card info.

I have a feeling it was a windows update that messed everything up. If that was the case, any ideas on how to go about fixing that? Thank you for all the input. I wouldn’t even know where to begin with this stuff.

If you can wait a little bit maybe Colin will be along with some information that will help.

If I were in front of your computer, though, the first thing I would do is go to the nVidia site to get the current drivers for your graphics card. I would install them. Then I would make sure I have the latest SketchUp installer file fromthe download page. I would right click on it and choose Run as administrator. If prompted, choose Repair. Last step before trying to use SketchUp again would be a cold reboot of the computer. That is, power completely off, wait a minute and then reboot.

You’re welcome. I hope it gets sorted shortly.

There are some of us who have the same issue on windows, Collin told me that it was because of scan essentials was failing to load, I uninstalled and deleted the rb file and I had still crashes, I kept sending the bugsplats and sharing the number, he told me that it was because dynamic components, then sandbox tools or any other plugin developed by SketchUp. I still have those crashes and Colin didn’t reply to my last bugsplats more than two months ago. I just ignore the bugsplats and usually after five or six attempts, I can open SketchUp. SketchUp 2027 will probably fix those issues.
