Error when exporting a pdf from layout

Do you want any of us to look at the file as well? First thing to try is to export a page range, or even just do one page at a time. Soon you should know which page is causing the problem, and then on that page you may need to try deleting things, until the error stops happening. The last thing you deleted includes the item that is causing the problem.

Thank you, Colin, that was good advice. I have a 13-page Layout file. I exported each page individually to find the offender(s). I was successful on all pages except, pages three and four. Oddly, they were the simplest pages, only a viewport and nothing else. I deleted them, remade them, and successfully exported them. Then I attempted the whole sheet-set and was also successful.

I still don’t know what was wrong, but I’m relieved that I can deliver my project to the client on time.

Thanks again! Cheers.

If it’s not too late, you might investigate what on those pages was preventing the export. We’ve seen cases where it was down to a single dimension or an inserted image that caused it.

It may be too late on this one, unless I go to a backup file. I’ll be sure to save a copy for experimentation the next time it happens [hopefully never].

Hi there,

I had this problem recently and it was a small repeating line graphic I created on my page. After removing/ amending then the problem was resolved. I think Layout may find certain lines graphics, especially if small, tricky to manage. Hoping this may work for some of you as it took me a while to pinpoint the cause.

i had the same issue, i solve it recreating an faulty clipping mask in one of the pages. if this error apper is because of a drawing malfunction.

Thanks @allegradomenico

From what I followed in the forums, sketchup support has no idea how to resolve the error.
We even agree that it is inconsistent to ask to revert windows10 updates …

I have the same error … Wasting my time trying to solve :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I can say for sure this is not a problem with the install as some files work fine with Vector Exports and some get this error.

As far as I know, there is no real rhyme or reason why this happens and unfortunately there is no real solution.

Exporting to pdf over an already open pdf of the same file will cause this, though this is an obvious easy fix by changing the file name or closing the open pdf.

If the error still occurs, I’ve found the only way to fix this is to trouble shoot the problem by the following steps:

  • Export each layout page separately to pdf until you find the layout page(s) that is creating the error.
  • Turn off or delete view ports individually and attempt print the page again until you find the viewport that is creating the problem.
  • If you found the view port that is creating the issue, if it is inside a clipping mask, then release the clipping mask and attempt to print to pdf again. (This has worked for me in the past).
  • Worst case scenario is to redraft the ‘broken page’ on a new blank page.

Hi ! I have this problem to now, I never had that, it’s start 2 weeks ago with a big file. I export page by page and now none even a white page can export to PDF. This is one of the tool we need everyday. Imagine with almost 1500 drawing a year what I going to have to do.

Re-install and repair as admistrator, nothing work the only think I can see that came from an Windows update.
