I recently switched computers at work from a windows to a mac and since then my entity info box has been all screwed up. It doesn’t show anything except the base entity info, there are none of the other drop downs available.
I have always used a mac as my personal computer and I don’t remember ever seeing this on my mac, so I don’t think it’s just a difference between the versions, but I could be wrong I suppose. I can’t find the materials, styles, tags, any of those other drop down tabs that are usually below the entity info. Here are the pictures of the entity info box on my old computer vs the new one. I feel like this is an easy fix but I can’t find it anywhere.
There were two things in the bottom right corner that looked like possible arrows. One pulled up some additional price type info that was only available when I selected components, and the other just allowed me to drag the window bigger horizontally. Here are pictures of both results. It’s also doing it on my personal computer all the sudden, which I don’t remember being the case, so I’m pretty confused at this point.
This was the method I have always used to change the number of segments in a circle, change the color of something, and things like that, none of which I am able to do with the current “entity info” window that opens up when I right click on it. Super weird.
Entity info works the same on the Mac in this regard. In fact your screenshots show they are totally identical. The other palettes you can find in the Window menu: Materials, styles, tags, etc
What exactly are you missing? In each of your screenshots you show have a (not-solid) component selected. I don’t see anything missing your screenshots that I would expect to see in Entity Info on Windows.
You have to have a circle selected in order to do that on PC or Mac.
You have to have an entity selected which has a material applied to it. None of you screenshots show that you have that.
I guess I’m missing all the stuff I would expect to see on windows? I thought the mac version displayed like the windows version when I opened the entity info box. How do I get into the materials, components, styles, tags, shadows, scenes and all of those other drop downs on the mac version? It looks like they are all a part of the “default tray” along with the entity info itself. So how do I get my full default tray to show up?
Entity Info shows the same thing in your Mac screenshots that you’d see in Entity Info on Windows. Here’s Entity Info on Windows witha component selected and the Advanced Attributes expanded.
So you’re really not talking about Entity Info, you are talking about the other windows that appear in the Default Tray on Windows. You can open any and all of those windows from the Window menu and dock them together but there is no tray on Mac. Slide the stack of window over to the right and, if you want, make the main window narrow enough so those utility windows are not covering the model space like the Default tray would normally do on Windows.
Oh that’s so weird! Why would they make the interface so different like that? Seems like a pain in the ass extra step. I was so used to being able to pull up all of that with a quick right click on the item, then closing out the windows when I’m done. Now I guess I have to leave the dock of options open all the time and let it populate based on whatever piece I have selected? Do you know if it’s always been like that on the mac and I’m just being delusional, or if that was a change change on a particular version?
It has always been like that on the Mac. The Windows version was recently converted to use the Qt GUI library instead of native Windows, but that library largely matches Windows. The Mac GUI was written from the start using MacOS libraries, which don’t provide the tray system. I suppose the original developers wanted to make it familiar to Mac users.
Click on any title bar of these windows to expand it. Click again on the title bar to shrink it.
On some windows, at the bottom right, there is a small triangle pointing down with a + sign that allows you to open an extra panel with advanced information or attributes. Once expanded, the triangle points up and the + sign becomes a - sign, telling you that you can close this extra panel.
These windows can be stacked together for a neat setup.
See attached screen capture showing a few windows with the Entity Info opened.
