That is a nice looking bridge.
It made me think of a bridge design that I created in Sketchup, you might enjoy this design.
It is a pedestrian bridge, 300ft long, over the Wear River in Durham, England
The city of Durham wanted to expand their downtown area, but there really wasn’t any room in the downtown proper land area. So I thought a pedestrian bridge over the river to let people continue their strolling from the downtown area over this bridge. I wanted its walkway to be a brick/cobblestone type of appearance.
Another reason I tightened up the support cables and used a suspension cable design was that this style would allow me to keep the pedestrian walkway as level. I don’t think people really like these pedestrian bridges where the walkway is a curve, the people need to walk uphill until they get to the middle of the bridge and then walk downhill to continue over the bridge. I wanted the pedestrian walkway to exist and give the feel and appearance that the pedestrians were just walking along on another road in the downtown Durham, England shopping/tourist area.
I wanted to explore the concept of a suspension bridge but I dramatically thickened the support cables so that they could be given more tension than is needed just to support the bridge walkway if it were full of people.
I wanted to add tension to the support cables to flatten out their curve (not to be a typical catenary curve) so that the effect of this flattening is that the cables moved closer to the bridge walkway. This means the cables were low enough that they did not interfere with the sightlines of the people on the bridge, they could just look out over the cables to take in the view. The cables come also close to being useable as the safety railings.
I put some curved tubing under the bridge to be sure it would not sway, people do not like the walkway under their feet when they are high up in the air to become a swaying walkway.
I was also exploring the concept of megalithic structure. I do not feel that people inherently dislike megalithic construction as long as it is not overbearing, gloomy, dark, and threatening in its appearance. I think kind, protective, support, solidity radiating megalithic structures are sort of comforting to people, actually.
So I made the supports above ground, 1 million pounds of concrete each, and then covered these support anchors for the suspension cables with granite blocks to make them pretty.
I have a web page about it, I called it “Beautiful Bridge”
Enjoy! Dr. Gray
Here’s the webpage, I think I may have made some YouTubes about this bridge also.
