Hello everyone. I am in need of someone to help me figure out why I seem t be having issues with the dynamic component cabinet I have built.
Very basic box design where I have created options for with, height and depth. After building the model and tested the options with varying sizes with no issues.
I have saved it to my local collection, open an new project, select the component and place it. Now when i go to the component option and change the size the specs are all over the place and requires me to go into the attributes and replace the coding to what it was when i built it and had no issues.
Note this will also effect other components that i bring into the project.
Is there something I have missed? I was a long time user of 2018 desktop version and hadnt had these issues in the past. Is there something within 2025 I am doing wrong?
I do see a problem with the wall cabinet and it appears it’s due to using copies of the base cabinet components. You should use new components for the wall cabinet.
I think it’s better to do this. Making the components unique won’t change their names in the DC. I’m in the process of rebuilding your wall cabinet now. I exploded and remade all of the wall cabinet components to ensure there’s no connection to the base cabinet.
Have a look at this version of your wall cabinet. Make sure you import it into a SketchUp file so you don’t have an extra level of nesting. Wall Cabinet.skp (15.3 MB)
much appreciate the help. I understand the issue now.
Would you know of a simple video of how I can build/ write the code for having the ability to pick the number of shelves with even spacing between them? Thats my next task.
I have a cabinet business and have been trying to learn this in my spare time. The Open cutlist extension is fantastic and has help speed up my cutting times in the shop.
Id also like learn a way to get door order lists from a file to help ct down on ordering errors.
Day one on here has been great. Thanks for the help DaveR
I don’t know of a video but you can have a look at the shipped DCs. There’s a picket fence component that does the same thing. Examine it for the way to adjust the number of copies.
Things like doors can be tricky as DCs unless they are slab doors. Resizing components is always a scaling operation. Shaker-style doors (flat panels and simple rails and stiles) aren’t so back but if you need detailed doors with profiles on the frame members and raised panels, things get messy. So the process depends on what you need out of the model. I’ve found for my use DCs aren’t all that much of a time saver for most cabinet work.
