For much of the evening, I was unable to draw lines using Cmd L. Finally I went to Draw > Lines > Line and I was able to draw rectangles on a solid shape.
However, now I had a new problem. When I selected the rectangle, the dots are incomplete and I am unable to push the rectangle out of the solid shape.
I’ve pushed lots of rectangles out in the past. What’s going on tonight?
Basically the shortcut for the Line tool is L (Without cmd or any modifier key)
If you want to push the rectangle out of the solid shape, you have to draw that the rectangle inside the component (inside that solid shape) editing context.
Double click on that component (aka “solid shape”), and draw a rectangle on a face.
However, In fact, there is already a rectangle (and more) drawn on the given “solid shape” editing context, you just can’t see it because the display of edges is turned off.
The problems, as always, stems from the simple fact that you have no idea what a group, component and editing context…and other basics means.
Your model is terribly organised. To make it crystal clear - sorry to say, but you may not get it otherwise - it is a piece of s h i t.
You are using styles, tags, components, and everything else incorrectly.
It has been suggested several times by others that you learn the basics, check the square one videos and ask for personal help from someone.
It is strongly recommended that you delete the whole model, forget about it and start over with a new model from the very beginning.
Try using triple clicks. Triple clicks select / highlight all of the geometry in a component. So, if you triple click a face, like the door, and everything isn’t selected - you’re not inside of the component. It’s a way to do a quick test.
Thank you very much for your persuasive constructive criticism and thank you very much for the link to Square One videos. This is the very first time I have ever seen that link. I’ve started watching them & they will change my life.
