Disappearing Items

I copied a carport from another file. When I pasted it into my current model, the roof and other parts were missing but the group bounding box was visible for the whole thing! ??? This also happened to the roof of my model when copy & paste from a previous version… none of it showed up but the bounding box was there. Note: I had been “hiding” the roof to see inside building but I unhid last and unhid all…is there something I am missing? If you close or save the model before unhiding, does it delete it? A lot of questions, I know, but cannot find an answer anywhere. Thank you! It is uploaded to 3D Warehouse as Vienna Baptist. 49mb! Sorry

Uplaod your model for a more definitive answer. “Unhide all” is context sensitive, it only unhides all hidden objects in the current context. So if the hidden things are contained in a group or component you will need to have that context open for editing for unhide all to have effect. Use View>Hidden Geometry and View>Hidden Objects to turn on visibility for hidden things to see whats there. You can also right click on visible hidden things and choose unhide from that menu.

Thank you so much for looking! Here is link to my model.

I tried all of that stuff. So strange. I can open a new file and paste these items no problem, so looking forward to solution.

Share the actual SketchUp file. You only shared a viewer link.

Does the pasted model share a pre existing Tag name that happens to be turned off?

Good question Chris, I do not understand tags very well. I am using a file of the original church the architect created and I have been working with that. I uploaded the model to 3D warehouse as Vienna Baptist. It is a large file…49mb…sorry.

I uploaded the model to 3D warehouse as Vienna Baptist. Sorry about the size of the file, it is 49mb

Looks like Chris is on the job. I’m sure he’ll get you sorted out.

No need to reply to each of us. This is a public forum. We can see your replies.

All of you folks are amazing! Thank you so much!!! You could spend days watching videos and still never find the answer.

YES! I found a tag called ROOF that was off. You are a steely eyed Rocket Man Chris! I think that is from the movie “Martian” One of my favorites!

it is, rich purnell, it is

I downloaded your model from the Warehouse and all tags were visible.

FWIW, you should take some time to learn about proper use og groups, components, and tags. ALL edges and faces should be created AND remain untagged. This is what I found in your model.

Thanks Dave, the file I received to work with was exported from Revit. There were a lot of tags and some components but not many groups which makes it pretty tough to grab elements to re-use. I have not made a tag yet that I know of, but I will delve into it. Thanks everyone!

OK, so the Tag called “Roof” turns on the main roof, but also the two carport roofs. Not sure how to untag the two carport groups. I watched several videos on the topic, sorry to ask again…I’m trying, friends. Thank you for your help.

Can you share the model file as it currently is?

Imports from other apps that use layers differently than SketchUp’s tags often arrive with things tagged in ways that cause confusion, particularly when applied to edges, faces, or items nested inside groups or components. So, you can get a mess even if you didn’t create or apply any tags yourself.

Removing them can be very tedious if done by hand. There are extensions that can automate the process for edges and faces.

Is there an extension that you would recommend?

I use Default Tag Geometry from Sketchucation to fix incorrect tag usage.

I could not locate that: “Default Tag Geometry” or Sketchucation from the extension warehouse
