Hi there, I have sent a model into Lay out. All the elevations with 1:20 scale dimension correctly, but the floor plans that i had to change scale to 1:50 will not dimension correctly. I have looked at a heap of changes but nothing will work. Help please.
Share the LayOut file so we can see exactly what you’re working with. Most likely you have the dimensions set up incorrectly, not using Auto Scale.
Final Draft~.layout (13.0 MB)
Its tab 5, 17 and 18
Not sure what that means. Especially since I can’t see your LayOut file.

hopefullt this comes through
That did come. I’ll look at it but you’ve shared the backup copy, not the original.

is this better
Change the order of your layers. Put the dimension layer at the top.
Well, as far as your question is concerned, no. Same issue.
I was correct. You’ve manually set the dimension scale to 1:20 so no matter what the scale is for the viewport, the scale for the dimensions will be 1:20. You should be leaving that set to Auto Scale. Then it will scale the dimensions off the scale of the viewport.
To fix the existing dimensions, select them and click the Auto Scale button. For further dimensions, select the Dimension tool and click on Auto Scale.
More comments shortly.
Ivan is correct that the Dimensions layer should be above the layer the viewport is on.
You should also set up your scenes correctly. There should be no reason to modify the Camera properties for the viewports. The dark gray background in the Camera section and the Reset buttons indicate you’ve modified the Camera properties.
In the SketchUp model you need to set the Camera to Parallel Projection for the plan and elevation scenes.
One of the elevation viewports with the Camera modified.
If it gets reset the viewport and dimensions are balled up. Also note that Scale isn’t available because you have the scene set up in SketchUp with the camera set to Perspective.
The camera was changed as i was trying to fix it on what someone else had reccomended from another topic. I have gone back in to sketch up and changed the camera and updated all scenes. Saved and then went back into layout. I deleted the floor plan and inserted the floor plan again. it still wont dimension correctly.
Did do what I suggested and set the dimensions to Auto Scale?
Also turn off Grid Snapping in the Arrange menu.
From what i can see and my understand is auto scale button is on.
There’s nothing in your screen shot to show it is.
I’ve corrected the scenes in your SketchUp model and then reset the Camera for all of the viewports in your LayOut file. Then I set the dimensions to Auto Scale. I also fixed the incorrect tag usage in your SketchUp model and purged unused content.

wow ok, what not know where to begin doing that. Thank you.
Its now working. Thank you so much, your a legend.
I did my course with DTA and they didnt touch on any of this trouble shooting stuff. i still dont know where you went to auto scale.
The start is setting up the scenes correctly. for elevations and plan views that requires the Camera to be set to Parallel Projection.
If you open the SketchUp file by right clicking on a viewport and choosing Open with SketchUp you can go through the scenes and look at the changes. The other thing I did is select all of the geometry that is supposed to show in each scene and use Zoom Selection to make it fill the model window.
In LayOut make sure you are leaving Auto Scale enabled for the dimensions.
You really need to get into using components and groups as well as tagss correctly in SketchUp and you need to get to using layers in LayOut correctly.
Probably it would be a good idea to go through the instructional materials at learn.sketchup.com
I’m glad it’s working and you’re welcome.
That doesn’t surprise me. Most design schools seem to suggest or direct students to use SketchUp and LayOut but don’t give any instruction on the correct use of the applications.
Look in the Dimension Style panel like I showed in my screen shot.
