I have a model which contains four different valley rafters which I’m trying to share with my foreman for referencing cut lengths and angles. Unfortunately, none of the dimensions or notes are displaying properly. See video showing SketchUp Studio first, and then SketchUp Viewer second:
So the second part shows the SketchUp Viewer not SketchUp for Web. What browser is that in? What’s the graphics card?
Can you share the link to the file?
Thanks, @DaveR my mistake, it is SketchUp Viewer - I’ve changed the post to avoid confusion. Browser is Chrome, graphics card is Intel UHD:
Here is the link:
odd one indeed. when zooming in/out and orbiting, some of the text appears, but not as the actual values.
Odd.
I made one test and didn’t get that result. I opened a different file, added dimensions to it, saved to TC and opened the viewport link. I did get the black text boxes.
I copied the model with the dimensions into a new file, saved it to TC and then opened the link to the viewer and it works as expected.
Perhaps you could try that? There shouldn’t be any difference between my two files except the file name so it’s kind of a puzzle and, if it fixes it for you, not a very satisfying fix.
looks like it’s displaying the component’s name instead of the actual value.
are the dimensions inside the components you made or outside ?
I will try that. Did you overwrite the previous file on TC or save it as a completely new file?
Thanks,
Dom
I saved it as a completely new file mostly because I wanted to be able to compare them. Not sure what would happen Iif I were to overwrite, though.
I just overwrote it and it worked, but I didn’t have any scenes in the new file yet. I just made a completely new file and new link (with scenes this time) and the black boxes are showing up again. Dang! We were close.
All of the dimensions on the light brown rafter are pulled outside of the component. All of the cutoff dimensions pulled from the white group at each end are within the group.
welp, looks like the link gremlins were at it
Glad it’s fixed
Looks like adding scenes = adding gremlins.
Was the difference between your first test and the opened file that the second one contained scenes?
Yes. The first one with the black dimension text boxes does contain scenes. They are all of the the cabinet, though and no scene was active when uploading the file to TC. Hmmm …
I used your copy to new file method and just have two versions of the rafter instead of scenes, so that’s a temporary fix for now. Thanks for the help @DaveR!
Hopefully they’ll fix this in the viewer. It’s not so great to have to maintain two SketchUp model files of the same project.
FWIW I only ever use dimensions in SketchUp for tests like this so I’ve never seen that before now. Can’t say if it has changed at all over time.
I’ve used Layout up until now but I was excited about SU2024 link sharing and thought these complicated rafter cuts would be easier to show as a model instead of 6 different views + a section or two of each rafter with Layout. Like you said hopefully it’s an easy fix and they’re able to get to it soon.
