I use sketchup online. When I try to create a scene with dimensions for printing, as soon as I create the scene all the measurements get black boxes over them.
Are they trying to get me to buy the pro version, or what’s going on?

I see that in SketchUp Go for Web too. I expect it’s a recently added bug.
No. They didn’t single you out to get you to buy a Pro subscription. I presume you are a hobbyist woodworker and as such you can use the free version. I expect they’ll fix this dimension display issue as soon as they can.
By the way, if the dimensions are added after the scene is created the dimensions appear correctly.
Gotcha. Yeah after trying several times it seems like a bug, as I have to reload the file, since those boxes don’t go away again.
it happened some time ago in the viewer, technically it’s the same platform, and the solution was to copy all / paste in a new clean file.
could be related.
Hum. So the scene is “only” about viewing angles?
I have a lot of dimensions in my mode, some clutter if they’re all present. I thought I could for instance make a top view scene with the interesting dimensions, then a side view scene with other dimensions and so on… But that won’t work?
FWIW, if you often make your own plans for your projects, you might find having Pro worthwhile, even though you are using it for your hobby, anyway. Between the various import and export options, the ability to use extensions, and access to LayOut, there’s a lot more you can do than with SketchUp Free.
With Pro you can automatically generate materials/cut lists and get other reports. You can also more easily create complex geometry. Export for CNC cutting, etc.
It can work. You can create tags to assign to dimensions you want to show for each view and then change the visible tags for each scene.
Aight. Thanks!
I do use sketchup for all my projects, even the tiniest smallest ones, because it’s fun to use sketchup. But the step up in price for what I need is a too big leap. I’ve hit the subscribe-link several times but every time I go “nah”.
I’m quite a beginner at sketchup so I wouldn’t even know how to use all the added functionality the Pro gives.I bet the cut lists would just be a mess, since I’m not very skilled at keeping my sketchup projects very tidy. I just measure things with the ruler and enter those measurements into another website I actually pay for to give me the cut solutions.
I guess learning to create accurate models would be a first step. Once you get that sorted out, a cutlist is fast and trivial to create.
Granted it a Pro sub isn’t cheap but for the time it saves me in the shop, I’ve found it a good investment for my woodworking.
Indeed. I just need to build the skills to get value from all the other aspects of a Pro-sub. Thanks!
