Because reading white letters on dark background is definitevely not better for the eyes.
SU is not for book reading, and besides, nobody talked about white letters (they have to be light gray or black).
Make an experiment - do a search on YT for any 2d/3d tutorial for virtually any program - they all grey/dark grey themed for many decades

Yes. I am waiting too. Without data, talk about the benefits of “dark mode” is nonsense. Its advocates spend too much time on computer games. I used “dark mode” for about 10 years as it was the only option before Windows versions of CAD applications became available, and find “light mode” better.

I mean you all can research it as much as I can. To me it feels better on my eyes. Like Annsi I learned CAD on Dos until it came out on WIndows. As soon as I could revert my Windows OS and color in CAD I went back to dark modes. Yes, each person has their own preferences. As I stated earlier, seeing that Apple, Adobe and other big name players offer it sort of reinforces my opinion that it is a wanted option.
The fact that you prefer it, or that it’s an option offered elsewhere, has nothing to do with whether or not it’s good for the health of your eyes.

I honestly DON’T need you or anyone else to tell me what bothers my eyes and what doesn’t. I have a yearly eye exam and other than needing readers my eyes are fine. I prefer dark mode.
It looks like struggling to understand what is this topic about.
It doesn’t mean that users will be forced to work in black viewport, no.
It means that aux UI elements like trays\toolbars\menus\all sorts of dialog windows must not conflict and distract users attention from more neutral and dim viewports (with accent on model) which are suitable for full time work.
The main subject is model, not constantly glowing radioactive white UI elements.
P.S. your “proof” links links are hilarious - some quackery anonymous articles with mobile UI examples. Common, find some decade-long studies about DarK UI hArM, confirmed by established piers, and published trusted resources like Science or Lancet.

Some unknown sysadmin in your previous unknown company with unknown software forced you to work in light UI? Do you understand that this is not an argument?
yes, well, it’s always the same with these topics, when someone asks “could I have the freedom to do X, Y or Z?” someone will come and say “well I don’t want to do X, Y nor Z so I disagree”.
some people are pro-light, some are pro-dark, most of us wouldn’t mind have the choice and consider that the way our screen looks doesn’t concern anyone else…
I find myself that I can easily spend 10 hours using Cinema 4D without getting eyes strain, unlike the white interface of SketchUp, my 52 years old eyes get tired after about 2 hours!
The issue is not the white interface. But poorly set up screen.
I dont care about Dark UI or White UI preferences.
But I care about giving some usefull advices.
