Could someone advise me as to why this component refuses to identify as solid?

Every component here except the rectangular base identifies as a solid, why is that?

Why is your model so far from the origin? You really should eep it closer to the origin.

Solid Inspector 2 is an extension. You can get it from the Extension Warehouse.
