Do not delete – Rear hexagon, same for ea~.skp (192.3 KB)
hello, group it or make it a component before doing so
In the above MP4 file I’m trying to copy a shape from one SKP file and paste it into another SKP file. What am I doing wrong?
Peter Enns
I did make it into a group.
Peter
exit the group first, you copied it while editing it
What do you mean by “exit the group” ?
I tried it again. This time I made it into a component and unselected the shape. Then I tried copying & pasting. I got the same results as last time.
Peter
if you select while editing the group, the raw geometry will be copied, you don’t want that. Press escape to exit editing mode or right click in an empty space and pick close group (or close component depending on what you are editing).
once you’re not in edition mode anymore, you can select the group, copy it and then paste it in the other file.
Check in the entity info window, it is a good way to make sure what’s selected.
This is one of the very fundamental things about using SketchUp. The business of creating groups and components and editing them as been covered in your posts many many times. Go back and read through your previous threads.

I pressed the ESC key, right clicked, looked at entity info and it still does not copy & paste correctly.
Peter
What is not correct? Is it not coming in? in both vides it looks like it is pasting into your other file.
It DOES look like the post is out of plane just slightly with the surface you are pasting it inot, but it is pasting exactly as I would expect.

Hello Arron,
As you can see from the attached MP4 file, none of the colors from the copied file are pasted. Not only that, but I have to turn the model around to even see the full length of the post.
I pressed ESC before copying.
What could be going wrong? I have copied other items from other SKP files before & never had problems.

None of the faces in the model you are pasting into are vertical… that are all slightly leaning… this causes the pasted faces (which I would guess ARE vertical) to disappear behind the leaning geometry.
In the image below I turned on Color By Axis which shows vertical lines as blue… notice none of your lines are blue… notice the vertical line that I drew and how it disappears clightly behind your face.
