Hi just a quick one. I have created a component and saved it with some of its geometry edges hidden. When I bring it into a model, the edges are shown. Is this correct? Does the visibility of line rely on the style only when the model has been created with hidden lines within it?
hidden edges stay hidden inside the component,
are those showing up as solid lines or dashed/dotted lines?
can you share a quick screenshot? also check View - Hidden Geometry to see if it’s toggled on in your active style.
Show the Edge settings in Styles for both models.
“HIdden” is a property of an individual entity. “View Hidden geometry” is a setting on an entire model via the chosen style.
Your first image looks like what I see when a component has a very high density of short edges and either they are not hidden or view hidden geometry is turned on. The faces they bound come out looking black.
You could try editing the style to change the edge color from black (default) to something else to confirm that this is what is happening. You can also check the “Modeling” panel in the style editor to verify whether “view hidden geometry” is turned on (or equivalently, opening the view menu)
Does it change if you take the one that shows properly, window the plant, make component, then Right Click on the component and ‘Save As…’ - then bring this into a new model?
The model is a component that I import via the collection option. The original model has got all the edges switched off in the style but had all the individual edges within the model hidden precisely to avoid the lines showing as it overpowers the detail.
The model that it is imported into has edges showing in the style as some of the other components do need to show them.
When it imports, only some of the components edges show but not all of them.
Style edge settings are applied to the entire model. If you import a component into a new model it will be displayed with the edge settings for the current style in the present model. The style that was applied when you created the component has no bearing on how the component will be displayed when you import it into a different SketchUp model.
Are you sure about this second part? Sounds like you are viewing the component in one style (no edges) in the first file then a different style (edges) in the second file. Style is global. It’s not too hard to select all edges and hide them and that is often whats needed in imported models. Post a copy of the plant file, the .skp here so we can have a look at what’s going on.

USER ERROR. On the component model I had colour lines by material selected so they didn’t show up. Now they do.
