I have come back to SketchUp after not using it for a while, and forgetting some of the various terms.
I left off where I created a shower, by modifying an existing smaller one I designed. I made that into a group, then component, so I could move it all into another design. However, when clicking onto the component, the lines go far beyond the actual item (see my screenshots here).
How do I fix this? Normally, these are boxed fairly similar to a component’s actual bounds, and this isn’t even close.
well, the bounding box automatically sizes to the extent of your group / component. if it’s super big like that, it means there is something somewhere, visible or not.
could you share your file ? directly here or using wetransfer ?
Is that 2D markup or 3D markup or else…?
I’m messing around with annotations and comparing all their properties with (for instance) 3D Polylines.
Also I suspect that the IPad has better maskup options compared to Windows.
Please elaborate (TIA Pierre).
I was hoping for more information about ‘Annotation’ overlay, either about the use of 2D or 3D tool and properties in Windows. And how others may use them.
I’m working on that, just pre-gather information either by asking but mostly by my own experience working with ‘Annotation’ overlay.
As I said I was off topic. Sometimes that can happen, not only by me.
You shall reduce the numbers of levels in your shower component and purge and simplify your model which is close to 440 Megs in size.
Here is the shower saved separately to show you the edges to be deleted.
The simplest way is to explode all these imbricated components then clean the shower model then recreate a new component and, finally, import it inside you master model.
Instead of loosing time in locating and deleteing all these stray or parasite edges one by one, do it in one operation:
1 - Select All.
2 - Press and hold the Shift key to Add/Subtract to the selection.
3 - While still pressing the Shift key, do a window select to deselect the shower. All the stray edges remain selected.
4 - Release the Shift key then press the Delete key.
Thank you, but when I select all, then delete everything but the shower, when I then click on the shower, the same problem remains…like it’s connected to something, even though nothing else is there.
I opened your file where you note six items to delete, but I am not understanding what to delete.
Are parasite edges ones which connect to something else, but aren’t necessarily desired to be connected?
You have to zoom in on each of those to see if they are required.
Another potential problem is that your shower is located in 3 nested components which complicates a lot its modification.
Read again the 4th sentence in my post which reads as:
The simplest way is to explode all these imbricated components then clean the shower model then recreate a new component and, finally, import it inside you master model.
Notice that if you save the shower as a SketchUp model, it will come in as a component when imported in your master model.
The reality is the whole model is a mess and it is beyond repair.
MMM needs to start with the basics and understand what a complex model should be constructed with to make it viable.
Attempting to fix this model or even just the shower would be a waste of time, compared to learning the fundamentals.
