Can't push window out, shape only partially dotted

Hello,

The attached model has a trapezoid that I have selected. Only part of it is dotted. Why is that?

I am trying to push that window out. Why can’t I do that?

Z-fighting. There are two faces at the same or almost same place.

It appears there is a face on top of a group. Delete the extra edges you don’t need as you only need to push/pull from one side to cut an opening on the other. Also be sure to ‘reverse faces’ as you go so there are no blue (back) faces oriented outward (it’ll help you later, trust me).

It almost worked but not quite. I erased the solid lines on the front & back. The entire trapezoid was dotted. Then I began pushing it out as you can see in the attachment.

However, when I got to the solid line at the top & back of the hexagon, it would not push out. Why not?

It looks like the trapezoid isn’t lined up with the larger face. Could that be it?

Attached are 2 animated GIFs. The first shows how I drew a window system. The second one shows how the face of the hexagon was selected, the window system was toggled to invisible, the outline of the window hole was drawn and the window hole would not push out.
