The office has moved me from an aging iMac to a Windows machine. I prefer Windows normally but got comfortable with Mac Sketchup pretty quickly. I’ve got a solid list of custom keyboard shortcuts and extensions I’m adding to the PC and I’m finding it impossible to add shortcuts for commands that only appear in the right click menus.
I think I recall those commands (Explode, for example) showing up in the keyboard shortcut menu as “Edit/Context Menu Flyout/…” but I can’t find them by trying to type out the whole command name or just “explode”. Some of the extensions I use have functions that only show up in the right click menus, and being able to use shortcuts with these makes Sketchup very easy and enjoyable to use.
I know I’m not crazy because my old computer could do it! If anyone knows how to make these commands appear in preferences I would greatly appreciate it.
The right click menu is usually context sensitive. In order to assign a keyboard shortcut to it, certain conditions must be met.
For example, for the Explode command to be available, a component or group must be selected, and then you can go to Preferences/(i guess Settings on Mac)>Shortcuts to assign a keyboard shortcut to it.
It’s the same with the others, so when you right-click, the desired menu appears, then go to the assignment.
edit: For anyone that comes across this post in the future: if you want to set keyboard shortcuts for tools/commands that are only found in the right-click menus, it varies by operating system. I think both of them require you to have an entity selected before being able to see those options, per dezmo above.
MacOS: the path is something like “Edit/Context Menu Flyout/…”, or you should be able to type the name of the command/extension in the search bar and have it show up.
Windows: the path is “Edit/Item/…”, again the search function should work provided you have something selected before you go into Preferences.
