Every time I try to open Sketch up 2017 on my windows 8 laptop, it gives me an error message. I’ve tried everything recommended. Unistalled and reinstalled the software. Nothing is working. I would go back to sketch up 2016, but geo-location has been disabled which is really annoying.
Were you be able to open SketchUp 2017 before?
Make sure you updated Window 8 and graphics card drivers etc…
Try running this Checkup and follow the suggestions.

When you reinstalled, did you right click on the installer and use Run as administrator?
Do you have any extensions installed?
