UPDATE: well, now it’s not happening, and I don’t know why. So please disregard this post. I’ll update if I can reliably reproduce the issue

Maybe not exactly a bug – only happens with my custom Nvidia settings. The screen flashes completely black for a split second, quite frequently (every 5-10 seconds if active in SketchUp). Black fills the entire screen – not just SketchUp. This only happens with the new graphics engine enabled. It seems to be related to frame cap, sync, or something like that. I can fix it by disabling ‘Max Frame Rate’ for SketchUp in Nvidia control panel – usually I prefer to cap it at 57 FPS. I tried to take a screen capture but the flickering didn’t show up in the output video.
specs:
- 60 hz monitor with ‘adaptive sync’
- Nvidia 4090 / AMD 5900X
- windows 10
- sketchup 25.0.660
Here are some other settings that might be relevant. These settings have performed well in fullscreen 3D games (including ‘borderless windowed’ mode), giving smooth variable refresh with low latency. And I don’t get this problem in TwinMotion. Ideally, SketchUp would behave similarly.
- Nvidia / Max Frame Rate - usually set to 57 – workaround is set to disabled (for SketchUp only – it’s still enabled globally).
- Nvidia / G-SYNC - enabled for windowed and fullscreen (global)
- Nvidia / V-sync - force on (global)
- Nvidia / Monitor technology - G-SYNC compatible (global)
- Windows / HW GPU scheduling - enabled
- Windows / Variable Refresh - enabled
Note that the behavior of Vsync changes when Gsync settings etc are also enabled – it’s kinda complicated. See this Blur Busters article for more info on that.
