Hello,
I’m looking for some tips/ideas to model quickly this ceiling lamp in Sketchup? Thanks in advance!
How detailed do you want it to be?
Quads and subd.
Sub-d modeling, then ThruPaint for mapping.
Just a quick and dirty proof of concept.

No super detailed, just something clean and nice. I prefer light models.
Hi Panixia,
Really cool! thank you so much! so idea is to start with squared shape and then you used Subd plugin? Cool!
Then you want to stick with the method showed in my example.
You just model the lamp body with no-tickness, extract the border and use “lines to tube” or something like that to just extrude the tickness of the border and then give it a texture.
If you try to model the actual individual straws, you’ll end up with a really heavy model.
If you use a texture, you can try to use just a few displacements at render-time (maybe just for closeup views).
