In my free version, my model has multiple groups that are also on tags. All the tags are turned on. Hide rest of model is turned off. Hidden geometry is off.
One of my groups is a blueprint I imported as an image. I exploded it, then turned it into a group.
When I go to make any other group active for editing all the other groups stay visible except for this one group.
I see the same as @bmike when viewing on the free version. I notice that the image vanishes but the group is still present: you can still see its border. This seems like a bug with handling a texture.
It’s the same as the way textures used to be handled in the desktop version. They would not be displayed while another opbject was opened for editing. Interestingly I don’t see that behavior in SketchUp Go with Chrome.
In the past the general advice was to leave imported images as images (don’t explode them) so that they would show when an object is being edited and also so they would show if the face style was set to Monochrome or Hidden Line. Not sure what benefit there is to importing a reference image like this as an image, exploding it, and creating a group to contain it.
That problem has happened on desktop in the past. It is possible that a fix that has happened on desktop is not yet in the web version.
I am able to test the version that will be the next update for the web, and the problem doesn’t happen in that one. Which suggests the desktop fix is finally being added to the web version. Don’t know when it will go live, but they do updates fairly often.
Thank you all so much for helping. I found a work around with X-ray. BTW I’m only using the free version because I’m teaching a basic Sketchup course at our local adult education school. What a blast
Here’s the other advantage of leaving the image as an image. It remains visible even if the style is set to Monochrome or Hidden Line. In my previous GIF the face style is set to Monochrome and the image is still displayed. After exploding the image so it becomes a texture on a face, you can’t use it as a reference unless you use a style with textures.
