I applied this principle to SU. Many users also stayed with the classic licenses and the new versions do not have any revolutionary improvements. So Trimble used the trick of limiting the functionality of these licenses, Bad access to 3d warehoise, geolocation, reports, This already seems to be working to the detriment of the client.
I tried since I saw your reply, the free version is limited compared to the pro, it doesn’t have the layout feature which is a must for me, the cost of the pro license which includes layout is 1000 bucks and subscription is 440 bucks, the way of modeling on sketchup is a lot faster imo, for now it’s not worth it to get it, I’ve used skp for 15 years and I’ll keep doing it unless something happens that makes me change of software.
We recently released a big terrain-focused update to Artisan, version 2.1, which includes this very feature. It’s called the grade brush and it’s AWESOME! There’s some exciting changes in this update to make accurate site modeling much easier.
Artisan 2 does look amazing, especially with the new release.
I don’t know about others, but for me if Dale offered a permanent license option (as he does with several of his other extensions) I would buy it tomorrow.
