Applying a Texture

Hi!
I am trying to apply a material to a blanket. Every time I apply it, it shows up with all of the broken faces even though the original material was not broken. I’ve been searching for the answer to fix this but I can’t seem to find it in a tutorial, etc. I’ve tried to smooth is out, everything. Help!

I’m a newbe and think I have similar issues trying to apply corrugated roofing from 3d warehouse to my building models. Would love it if one of the experts could chime in on this one!

Agree! Let’s see. I’m at my wits end!

One option will be to change the original texture file (JPG, PNG…) with one of your own.

That’s actually what I did. I can’t get the facets to remove though. How did you get yours to be more clear?

Share the bed file and the image you are using for the texture.

This is the original file with the modeler’s texture.

Ok. Here it is. The original texture is on the bed and I uploaded my png file as a texture. It’s the floral pattern.

Bed File.zip (15.3 MB)

I did exactly as you see in the animated GIF. Did you watch it and try to do exactly the same steps?

Exactly like this! As I said, it replaces the texture of that material.

How large is the pattern supposed to be? I enlarged it for the screen shot.

Fredo6’s ThruPaint makes this easy. ThruPaint is available in FredoTools from Sketchucation.

Yes!!! This worked. Thank you so much! I was uploading a new file instead of changing the existing!
A thousand times, thank you!

Yes. Another user told me to replace the original texture with mine. That worked. I need to get the Fred Tools, I don’t have them.

Thank you so much for your time! A thousand times, thank you!

Dave, I have another question. Once I have the material on the blanket as you’ve shown, how can I align it so that it’s in the right position? I can get the scale but it’s not starting where I want it.
I tried to see if I could align the texture but that option doesn’t come up.

  • Select ThruPaint

  • Right-click on the texture

  • Force painting

  • Use arrow keys to move the texture

Like in the first animated GIF

Ok. So I should get the Fred tools? Otherwise I don’t have that option.

There are other options, but which involve more advanced knowledge - UV Mapping & Unwrapping and other plugins - Clothworks, Wrap-R; or external programs - Blender.

Use for now ThruPaint.
