Anyone using Stream Deck Mobile (on iPad or iPhone) with SketchUp?

Has anyone here set up Stream Deck Mobile to work with SketchUp?

If so, how have you found it? Does it facilitate your workflow?

Also interested in your experience if you use a physical Stream Deck. I’m considering this one in lieu of the mobile app on my iPad:

I believe @PaulMcAlenan is a user/fan. Maybe he will see this and chime in.

Not on Mac so can’t comment on the mobile version.

I have the 32 button Stream Deck and it’s great not just for SketchUp and Layout.

I also combine it with AutoHotKey but that’s only for Windows.

I used to use the physical version but I found it took up too much desk space for the maximum buttons version I felt I needed. I’ve literally just discovered the iphone version which I am currently setting up. I opted for the paid version which gives an unlimited number of screens with up to 8 x 8 buttons on each screen but I find an 8 x 5 layout to be perfect. This is what one of my screens currently looks like although it will change a lot in the next few days. The nice thing is you can have screens with retro buttons and a duplicate screens with 2024 buttons.

The permutations are literally limitless. I prefer the iPhone version to the physical version I gave away which cost me over £200 :+1:

It works great with this sexy 3 in one charger:

Thanks for this — exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for.

What are paying for it? (subscription, I assume?).

I’ve tried to find pricing info for the Pro tier but couldn’t find it either on their website or the App Store.

Thanks for your reply.

I also combine it with AutoHotKey but that’s only for Windows.

I imagine it could also be used in conjunction with the Shortcuts app on MacOS to accomplish similar things.

on the apple store it’s at the bottom, grey prints

If I had to use it, I would probably buy a month to try the full pro version, and if convinced, get the lifetime ? for the price of a couple of years, it seems to be worth it.

Thanks, didn’t realize that on the App Store if I clicked on ‘In-App Purchases’ it shows the pricing.

Makes sense, pricing is quite reasonable ($3.99 CDN / month | $69.99 Lifetime), especially in contrast to the physical Stream Deck ($169 CDN).

Plus I’d rather not add another piece of hardware to my already too large collection!

Check out TouchPortal as an alternative for controlling desktop apps from a phone/tablet.
No subscription and the basic fully working version is free

Where did you get your icons and configuration?
Thanks,
Todd

There are a few options.

You can obviously just take screen shots of the SketchUp and Layout UI and crop them using photoshop or something similar.

For the legacy icons I had a couple of PDF’s from somewhere in the distant past that I cropped the icons from. I will see if I can find them and post them below:

Here you go!

I don’t know how Kevin’s iPhone version works in respect of icon file formats or whether you are using a Stream Deck but for Stream Deck on Windows I have used the icon SVGs that are located in the SketchUp / Layout program folders.

Hi Paul

Out of interest I did a search for *.svg files within the SketchUp folders but they only open in a browser on my PC. Are you taking screenshots from the browser or is there a direct way to use the files? I tried to open them using ‘Photoshop Elements’ which is the only graphics program I have but got an error message saying “Could not complete your request because its not the right kind of document”.

Cheers, Kevin :+1:

Kevin – for the Stream Deck on Windows – (as I guess you know) when you create or edit an action for a key – you can set the icon from a range file formats which include SVGs.

In order for SVGs to be displayed in Explorer I have enabled this with Powertoys

For some time this was hit and miss and I had a better experience with SVGSee but would occasionally have to reinstall SVGSee.

Since getting a new PC recently, I have only relied on Powertoys and it’s been working 100% so far.

To edit an SVG I guess you’ll need a dedicated editor ? but I’ve done basic editting of SVGs in a code editor.

I can’t recall if it was on this forum where I found this out – I have created my own SVGs by creating the icon in Layout, then exporrting it as a PDF, opening the PDF in Inkscape and exporting from Inkscape as an SVG.

Actually - I didn’t know that Paul. When I had a physical Stream Deck I only ever used PNG files that I had cropped from Screenshots. I don’t have a physical Stream Deck now so I cannot experiment but using the native SVG files you describe sounds like a great solution.
