Hi, we just recently got a couple of reports of Sketchup 2025 crashing when using FlexTools while the latest version of Enscape (4.5.0.490) is installed
We managed to recreate the issue and found that it’s a bug in the latest Enscape for SU25 that is causing it. The bug could also affect other extensions! (not just FlexTools).
We have reported this bug to the Enscape team. They have acknowledged the issue and have informed us that they are planning to release a fix for it in their next software update.
In the meantime using the previous version of Enscape in SU24 should work fine.
I am also seeing a lot of beachballing in LO. Sometimes it resolves itself, sometimes it doesn’t. Although I do have quite a few extensions, I don’t make that much use of them. So I would only blame them if simply having them installed causes the problem. I do have a Spacemouse and I do remember some years ago there being problems with memory leaks related to SM use. So maybe that needs further exploration. Meanwhile, having to Force Quit and start over regularly is quite a pain. My drawings tend to be quite light so it cannot be related to file size.
This kind of event always results in you being asked to report the problem. Which I do religiously in case it helps developers. However, more annoyingly, you always get sent to a webpage that purportedly tells you more about your crash. I must have had that happen hundreds of times over the years but I have yet to see a crash report say anything useful. Is it an annoyance we could all do without??
It’s a mess working with Sketchup/ Layout 2025. Espacially Layout often crashes while updating the reference files! I uninstalled Sketchup/ Layout 2024 because it crashed sometimes,
and now I am still working with Version 2023 that is nearly stable!
To buy a 2025 license is quite expensive, if you considerate all these time-consuming crashes in one month!! I am really thinking of alternatives, not because Sketchup is not a good program, but with all these crashes really annoying and time-consuming
Ok, nevertheless I fear the time when it comes to a point 2023 is so out to date that you can’t use it anymore. I think at trimble they realised the problem with the stability, so it is possible to open 2025 drawings without any trouble in Version 2023…
well you’re thinking wrong. they didn’t make it possible to open 2025 files with 2023 because 2025 was “unstable”.
in 2021 they rewrote the way sketchup files are saved and compressed, making them inter-compatible between versions instead of version related.
…but to pay a yearly amount of money, even if it is not much compared to other 3D/ construction software should result in the possibility to use the newest version instead of some outdated…
OK, enough complaining, back to work
I see you still haven’t updated your profile. or are you still using 2022 ? it’s confusing.
still hard to provide help if we lack the proper info. I know, I know, we’ve told you last month, and you felt it was trolling. but still. we have a point.
By that comment it’s clear that you did not read my posts. If you’re referring to my response to a rude response then you’re just selectively picking sides. I’ve never been aware of where to update my info or have ever had a need. I didn’t know it even showed up anywhere. I’m used to the title being clear enough. If I say I’m using 2025 do you ignore that an only respond to what might be an un updated profile. Why do you even bother chiming in? Send me a personal message instead of this guys thread.
I dunno…I am still on the fence…do I like being charged $400 a year for a program that crashes? No I do not. Especially when I have to use it almost on a daily basis. It’s not unlike having a really cool car that breaks down every time you drive it…You love the car but it still bugs the hell out of you that you cannot rely on the car. OR a crazy girlfriend…you love the good things but the bad things drive you nuts…
The latest series of crashes always seems to happen when I leave the program running…not sure how long after but when I come back later that day or the next morning? “BugSplat”…every time. Yes yes yes I can avoid it by simply closing the program but sometimes I like to leave it open so I can pick up detailing where I left off. I am not as young as I used to be and remembering things like that are confusing sometimes. Oh well…rant off…
