Anyone else find Pro 2025 to be unstable?

If you hit „send“ it will open the browser, ask me to „hang tide“ and searched for a solution. Every time. It interupts me even further, that‘s why I don‘t send crash reports of crashes that feel like the same one from five minutes ago. Can I disable this somehow?

Occasionally the web page will tell you the solution to the kind of crash you’re having, but most times it will be a problem we don’t yet know the answer to. As soon as you see that web page we have already received the bugsplat report. You can close the page without waiting to see what it is going to say.

So far I find SUP2025 more stable than SUP24, but still less stable than SUP22/Make17.

So as usual I keep SUP22 installed to work around problems with SUP2025.
Why don’t I use SUP24, 23 and 22? Because they had too many problems with me, my extensions, basic sketchup functions or basic features got disabled.

Why do I still use SUP22? Because it’s the most common answer/solution to software problems even with the disabled add geo location.

SU25 doesn’t crash on me but frequently the app will hang and I have to do a force quit and restart to continue. It is not consistent on what I’m doing to make this happen.

Out of curiosity, how long do you wait prior to the force quit? Is it possible the app is doing a complex operation?

I have waited as long as 10 minutes before forcing a restart, and the operations should not be complicated.

I probably conceive of crashing and hanging as the same thing. Many times it will hang, like you say. Right click on the SU app icon in the dock brings up the option to force quit. But, sometimes I’ll just walk away for 10 minutes and somehow it resolves. Other times I don’t have 10 minutes to wait so I force quit and reopen. But I’m always concerned about files becoming corrupted by force quitting.

Colin, what would it take to have the development team redirect resources away from the AI integration and work on making this a better app. As I’ve posted before, Sketchup lacks the “spit and polish” of a world class app.

If I were to rub a lamp and a genie popped out, my very first wish would be that hitting “enter” or “return” would close the text field I’m in and return focus to the modeling window. That would be the wish before a ton of gold and a buxom lass.

I’m a Mac user as well running MacOS 15.4.1 and SU 2025. I’ve not experienced an increased number of crashes and overall find it to be rather stable (I seem to be the only one!). I use Profile Builder 4 but otherwise, not many extensions.

LayOut 2025 has actually been more stable for me than 2024 using a file that I originally created in 2024. I actually added sheets/pages and noticed an improvement in viewport rendering including one shade study I did with four viewports with different SU scenes on the same page. I’ve only had a couple of hangs when rendering a viewport but when I reopen, all good.

Sorry to hear about your crashes. That is frustrating. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully they find a fix soon.

Today has been specially difficult to work, I´ve had crashes every 10 mins, I sent a couple bugsplats and I get Crash #67498 all the time.
Can @colin or @Barry check what is going on with the information from the bugsplats, is it something to do on my end or what?

Just like to add (as this is a predominantly macOS thread) I also consider this to be the most unstable version I’ve ever used (I started on SU Pro 2015). SU has always been the most flaky app that I use (but it is also the app I use the most, 30 - 40 hours a week on average) but this version is far more unstable.
I concur with @ValmontR in regards to sudden endless beachballing and having to force quit.
I have many crashes / hangs per day on busy days, most seem to be related to opening a consecutive project file, it seems around a 50% chance of the second (or third) project file successfully opening without a straight crash or a beachball event but sometimes it just an (apparent) crash or hang.
I always submit bugsplats.

My personal opinion (FWIW) is that the current extension system confuses the picture, I have to run a number of extensions for the functionality I need. There’s seems to be no progress or process indicators as to whether (or what) an extension is doing or if there is a problem, its all tied up with the main SU thread and will pull the app down if a problem (Fredo’s stuff seems to be a good exception as this does actually report separate errors to the user and in some of his extensions there are actual progress bars) but for EVERYTHING else its just a beachball.
So the user has absolutely no idea whether an SU or extension process is progressing, in a failure mode or the application has hung.

Extensions do seem to add complexity to keeping SU stable. I, too, use many extensions because of the added capability they bring. I’ve often read when posting here over the years that I should be investigating which extensions or combinations of extensions are causing the issues. I hardly see why that should be my responsibility, as the end user. The interface for using extensions seems to be all over the map, with very little standardization or “User Interface Guidelines” evident. I would think that Trimble would publish a set of guidelines for how an extension should present it’s options to the user, as Apple does for apps on Mac or iOS. But Trimble seems far more mesmerized by chasing AI integrations than correcting the basic functioning of the application.

I hope enough users comment on this thread to get their attention.

That crash seemed to happen while using Curviloft. You do seem to be using the latest version, which was released 13 months ago. @Fredo6 may know if there are any Windows issues with Curviloft and SketchUp 2025.

Sometimes it’s while using curviloft, sometimes while using vertex tools, and sometimes using just native tools.

For those of you seeing beachball crashes, there is a recent thread relating to a memory leak related to the 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse which may be of interest…

An alternative approach to this would be to not show the web page. If the user supplies an email in the Bugsplat report then Trimble could, with an option tick box, offer to send a message if there is a known solution?

I would also preffer to tick a box to receive an email/message with “cause of issue” and as soon as available “possible solution for the issue” over an empty webpage :+1:

That sounds like a good idea, I will suggest it. One problem is that the majority don’t have a known solution, and people might then complain about getting a worthless email.

Another option would be to try and speed up the time it takes for that page to load! I will check into whether that slowness is our fault, or is expected with the bugsplat system.

The tick box could have an advisory “Trimble will only notify you if there is a known solution to this problem”. That should save sending worthless emails.

I’ve been on Sketchup since 2008. I’ve seen almost all the versions, on both Mac and windows. Some crash more than others. Some crash more on Skp, others on Layout.
This version I have now (2025 on iMac Sequoia 15.4.1) crashes above average. I’m not a big user on plugins and don’t really see a difference with or without.

I used to blame myself for a cheepo setup (back when I was a poor architecture student). Now (that I’m a poor architect haha) I know, it’s not me.
