All disappeared in the workspace (Model, Axis, Objects)

URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR ARCHITECTURAL THESIS

When I was trying to move objects in my model, all suddenly disappeared. Even the Axis lines. I do not have any previous backup since when all disappeared, my instinct was to save in case of an error but it was too late when I realized that the working backup was overwritten. I saw that some also encountered the same but I cannot seem to follow.

When I try to select all, it says that there are 43,463 Entities. I checked the model info and there were no texts too. I also tried copy pasting all but nothing happens. I tried copy pasting a single component to a new file too but as soon as I paste it, the axis lines and the sky goes missing, and the component or object is still not showing

Your help and assistance is greatly appreciated and will really help. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Share the .skp file and I’ll see if I can fix it for you.

The file is big, can you check if you can access the file through the Dropbox link below?

thank you so much for looking into this!

It’s opening. I’ll see what I can do. Back ASAP.

Thank you so much, I understand that the file might be big so I apologize for any inconveniences

It’s kind of a mess. There are some bad objects which I’m still looking at. I wound up copying the rest to a new model and have this:

You’ve got quite a lot of the model is placed more than 3.5 Kilometers from the origin. I suspect that part of the issue with the bad components is related to this large distance.

I also note incorrect tag usage. ALL edges and faces should be created and remain untagged. Only groups and components should be given tags.

You’re also hoarding a great deal of unused components and materials.

After copying what wouldn’t screw up the new model there are objects at huge distances from the rest of the model.

I’m curious about how and why this stuff got scattered across the countryside.

Here’s the file without the offending components. I’ll see if I can do anything with them. I moved the distant elements closer to the rest of the model for you but they are still randomly placed.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have no idea how those components and objects got that far. I’m honestly surprised how quick you are to respond. I am super grateful for your help!

Did you import a bunch of CAD stuff into the model?

The two main offenders are components called “facade1” They’ve been scaled without updating their component definitions. So far I haven’t been able to do anything useful with them. Whatever they are, maybe you could reconstruct them correctly.

Food luck.,

I believe that “FACADE 1” is imported from Rhino. I just remembered that I was currently scaling the object then THAT happened

Try importing it into a separate SketchUp file and correct it’s dimensions if needed. Remember to scale the definition and the definition of each component nested inside it. Once you have it all correct copy it into your project.

I’ll take note of this. Thank you so much!

One trick I use when things seem to disappear is CTRL+A to select all. Then Shift+Z to Zoom Extents. Then you can find the culprit outliers

That’s good advice but it didn’t work in this case.

Ah. I suppose if things were 3 kilometers apart everything would be so small it would look as though they disappeared.

Indeed! that’s at least part of it. Those facade1 components are just plain old bad, though.
