I viewed them. How old is your Edge?
@Barry - Once again, I stand corrected. I was able to view them in Edge but not IE.
Yes, I did get the message and had to click on it to get by it and then they did finally load. Given the way it works, I think it might be better if the toolbar loaded as the default with the ability to hide it rather than having to click to load it but that is JMO.
I still have some reservations about having to load my models to either the 3D warehouse or Remix to make them available like this though. I would like to be able to āhostā them on our own site. But once again, JMHO.
Now if I see some real evidence that I can combine this capability with rendering them in Paint3D, I think that could be very interesting and useful. Will have to wait and see what happens.
There goes the whole Sketchup programā¦When Microsoft gets its hands on Sketchup, there with be glitches galore and no tech support.
Nice leap to an erroneous conclusion.
Yea, that was 2006, when Google & Microsoft bought 2 little software companies in Boulderā¦ weāve already lived through that era, you donāt need to hold your breath.
Just wondering if there is any update on this whole topic. In particular, the relationship between Trimble & Microsoft as it relates to Paint 3D.
Hi Dave, thanks for following up. Nothing substantive to report at this time.
For those who are using SketchUp Make and want to already bring your models in Paint 3D:
- Use the STL Export Plugin to save your 3D model;
- Open it in 3D builder (just click on the .stl file and it should open in 3D Builder on Windows 10);
- Save the file in .3mf format;
- Insert the file Paint 3D;
- Wait till fall, when Powerpoint is going to get an Insert 3D model featureā¦
Minor quibble, but Iād recommend exporting to Wavefront OBJ instead of STL, as the OBJ format allows for colours and textures to be imported into 3D Builder. Iām assuming there is a plugin for Wavefront OBJ somewhere, otherwise I could possibly post my ruby script for this somewhere, it is a fairly simple format.
I really donāt see the point of embedded 3MF files in Power Point, as Power Point is for presentation, and the 3MF format, to the best of my knowledge, does not include surface normals (think smooth edges in Sketchup). This results in a faceted low-quality presentation.
I would speculate that Microsoft will allow other formats to be embedded in Microsoft Office (and not just Power Point). Iād like to see the option to embed .DAE, and .SKP!. I assume any imported 3d file format would be converted to GLTF internally?
Also, Microsoft should be including their own XAML 3D file format. Iām surprised to see this absent from both Paint 3D and 3D Builder. Is Microsoft abandoning it?
@MikeTadros, are you privy to any whispers from Microsoft about any of this, or have any details that you can possibly share in advance of Microsoftsā release?
There are several over at SketchUcation:
