Hello, I have created a projet in Sketchup and export all in layout. I created few pages in Layout and select the relevant sketchup page. However, when selecting some sketchup page, layout is showing another sketchup page systematically so that i can not get access to the pages i want. Can you please assist ? Thanks
Share the LayOut file so we can see exactly how youâve set things up.
In LayOut go to âFileâ
2.
Select âDocument Setupâ
3.
In the dialogue window, go to " References"
4.
Select âRelinkâ and link to the correct SketchUp files
That should resolve your problem.
Best wishes
Hi Catherine,
Thank you for sending me your LayOut file. I see two things that would create the problem you are seeing.
First, the SketchUp file you have inserted into the LayOut is the backup version. Note the ~ at the end of the file name.
If youâve been making your edits in the working version (without the ~ in the file name, you are editing a file that isnât connected to the LayOut file. You could do as BR3D suggested and relink the reference to the working file.
The other problem is that youâve modified the Camera positions for the viewports in LayOut. This tells LayOut to ignore the camera position in the scene even if you select a different scene. For example, thereâs this viewport in LayOut. You can see the dark gray background annd Reset button in the Camera section of the SketchUp Model panel.
That scene looks like this in SketchUp, though.
If you want the viewports to show the view in the scenes you need to reset the Camera for the viewports.
Side notes about your SketchUp model:
I see a lot of incorrect tag usage.
All edges and faces should be created and remain Untagged. Only groups and components should be given tags. Your model has a lot of ungrouped geometry in it. This can create a whole host of problems.
I also see you are hoarding a lot of unused content.
This results in file bloat and degrades performance in both SketchUp and LayOut.
A number of your entourage components from the 3D Warehouse have excessively huge textures for what they add to your model.
The largest is the bark texture on the ficus plant. Thereâs no need for such a huge texture. Really a simple color could prbably be used unless the ficus plant is the main player in your âstoryâ. I reduced the textures to something more reasonable. After the cleanup the file size was reduced by about 65%. More could be done to improve the efficiency of your model be using lower poly components.
I also see that you have Ambient Occlusion enabled in the SketchUp model. This is a neat feature but I would recommend you leave it turned off while you are working on the file in LayOut. Turn it on in SketchUp and update the style near the end when you are getting ready to export the PDF to send to your client. Thatâll speed things up for you.
Thank you. I do not have access to the working file which is gray. Do you know why ?
Where is it saved? In the cloud?
no. it saved on the computer
Can you show the full path to the file in Finder?
Unfortunately that doesnât show the full path. Can you move the .skp file to the Desktop and see if you can relink to the file from there? By the way, the two SketchUp files shown in your screenshot are the backup (one ~ in the filename) and a backup of the backup (two ~ in the filename) because you were editing the backup. Neither of them is the original working file. It would really be best if you do all of your work in the working file and leave the backup file alone. Donât open it unless something happens to the working file which makes it unusable.
I will try. The second point is the fact that i can not retrieve the different furniture in layout as I can not select each of them. I have created a scene in Sketchup for each furniture to upload them easily in Layout and this doe snot work.
I presume you mean when you select the a scene the camera doesnât change. As I wrote, this is because youâve modified the camera position in LayOut. This overrides the camera position in the SketchUp scene. Select the viewport and reset the Camera properties in the SketchUp Model panel.
Best practice would be to avoid changing the Camera in LayOut. Then you wonât have this problem.
Understood about the camera. The problem is not this one. the problem is that I tried to select another sketchup scene and it does not work.
Which viewport and which scene are you trying to select. Here Iâve reset the Camera for the viewport. When I select a new scene, the viewport updates to show what the scene shows in the model.
Many Thanks. You mean reset the camera to None in Layout but keeping camera set up in Sketchup ?
Yes. Let the viewports use the camera position you established with the scenes in SketchUp. If you do this right thereâs absolutely no need to modify the camera in LayOut and the viewports can update when you change the scene ort when you edit the SketchUp model.
OK. how can I display few sides of the furniture on a single page of layout to show the quotation of the furniture if i can not use the camera functionalities : up/left/right ?
For that sort of thing I create the appropriate scenes for those views in SketchUp. Although not a piece of furniture, hereâs an example I happen to have open in LayOut. Each viewport uses a different scene with a different camera position.
Alternatively you could make copies of the piece of furniture, each rotated to show a different side forward as Iâve done here.
Then set up a single scene showing all of them.
