When a texture is not projected, it ‘fragments’ per face. To fix, turn on hidden geometry, then sample the material, using the eyedropper, on face, then paste it on the face next to it. Then repeat, sample first…then paste only one face at a time.
The difference is clear. Not projected is no option (too many segments and towers). But projected gives the result on the right. How to prevent that?
Projected is supposed to give that result. You prevent that effect by not using a Projected texture.
Here I’ve projected the texture on the angled face. Due to the projection the texture gets stretched and distorted.
With the unprojected texture you should be able to apply it to the cylinder without it becoming fragmented.
Can you confirm which version of SketchUp you are using? There were a couple of releases that did do a poor job of mapping around cylinders.
Sketchup Pro 2021.
Got reasonable result with unprojected texture. Reasonable because the irregularities in the wall texture hid the segment errors on the cylinder at first sight. Have 48 segments in my tower cylinders. SketchUV fixed all segment errors but now 1 segment was completely wrong and could not fix that. Sigh.
It’s because sketchUV maps the image to fit the cylinder with the same dimensions of the material, if you want it to fit perfectly, change the dimensions on the materials tray based on the perimeter length of the cylinder, if the height of the material fits well you must unlink the dimensions so they have a different ratio otherwise the height will change as well.
If the circumference of the cylinder is longer than the length of the texture the texture will need to repeat. In my example I made the texture image width the same as the circumference of the cylinder so there was no need for it to repeat. You could enlarge the texture a little to get it to cover that last face.
If your texture is seamless the repetition won’t show.
Size texture adjusted but also structure left and right better fitted. Now good result. And of course non projected.
