Windows 10 File Explorer No Sketchup Thumbnails

I’ve been fighting this for years…Here’s what worked for me with SU 14 under Windows 10:

  1. Create (2) new folders : ThumbsUp Original and ThumbsUp New.

  2. Cut and paste original ThumbsUp.dll from SU Programs Folder into ThumbsUp Original folder with Administrator Rights.

  3. Download newer ThumbsUp.dll version 17.1.174.0:

  1. Extract all Zip files.

  2. Copy new ThumbsUp.dll to ThumbsUp New Folder.

  3. Copy this new ThumbsUp.dll to the SU Programs Folder.

  4. Open CMD prompt as Administrator.

  5. Type cd , example:
    cd C:\Program Files (x86)\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014

  6. Type the following:
    regsvr32 ThumbsUp.dll

What version of SketchUp are you using now?

What you describe implies to me incorrect installation of SketchUp, which, on Windows 10 and 11 requires right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting Run as administrator. With correct installation you shouldn’t need to do all those gymnastics.

Please complete and update your forum profile. It says you are using Windows 7 and doesn’t identify Sketchup version. If you’ve got a new computer probably a new graphics card, too.

Two or three SketchUp versions have initially been released without thumbnails working but they all have had them fixed in a maintenance release, so all versions of SketchUp ought to display thumbnails without any extra gymnastics if properly installed. Cold reboot your computer after making changes to these things.
